Alfa Romeo ziet Perez als serieuze kandidaat voor stoeltje in 2025

Het stoeltje van Sergio Pérez blijft een veelbesproken onderwerp binnen de paddock door tegenvallende prestaties. Voor 2024 staat de Mexicaan nog onder contract bij Red Bull, maar de vraag is of we Pérez terug zien bij de Oostenrijkers vanaf 2025. Mocht, dat niet zo zijn, dan staat Alfa Romeo te springen om hem binnen te halen.

''Perez is één van de topcoureurs. Hij is een optie en als het aan mij lag zou ik hem morgen naar het team halen. Hij is erg sterk en is zeker een optie, maar we moeten niemand uitsluiten”, vertelde Alessandro Alunni Bravi, algemeen directeur van de Sauber Group waaronder het F1-team valt van Alfa Romeo aan het Mexicaanse Record.com.mx.

In 2024 rijden Valtteri Bottas en Guanyu Zhou opnieuw voor de Italiaanse renstal. Bottas heeft een langdurig contract, maar zijn Chinese teammaat moet afwachten wat er na volgend jaar gaat gebeuren. Ook reserve -en testrijder Theo Pourchaire staat te popelen om in te stappen. De Fransman leidt op dit moment het F2-kampioen met een ruime voorsprong met nog een ronde voor de boeg in Abu Dhabi.

Voor Pérez is Alfa Romeo - het voormalige Sauber - geen onbekend terrein. In 2011 debuteerde de Mexicaan voor het Zwitserse team en scoorde na vijf Grand Prix zijn eerste punten in totaal van veertien. In 2012 behaalde hij een sensationele tweede plaats in Maleisië en Italië plus nog een derde stek in de Grand Prix van Canada. Door zijn sterke optredens kreeg Pérez de kans om bij het topteam van McLaren in te stappen vanaf 2013.

  Waarom zouden ze Perez willen hebben? Hij rijdt steeds langzamer en tegen die tijd heeft hij zes kinderen en dat is nog eens 0,5-0,6 sec langzamer.

Ik hoop toch ergens dat dit een grap is, ik hoop dat Audi hier toch een stokje voor gaat steken. Perez is altijd al een wisselvallige coureur geweest en dat zal ook niet veranderen. Hij rijdt nu al een hele tijd in een van de beste auto’s en hij laat zelf zien dat hij geen topper is. Dus waarom zou je dan in gods naam erover denken om Perez als coureur te willen.
