Bottas ontvangt tijdstraf na crash met Stroll

Meerdere coureurs moesten zich na afloop van de Mexicaanse Grand Prix bij de stewards melden. Er werd lang onderzoek gedaan naar de incidenten, maar uiteindelijk werd er maar één straf uitgedeeld door de stewards. Alfa Romeo-coureur Valtteri Bottas ontving namelijk een tijdstraf van vijf seconden voor een incident in de slotfase van de race.

Bottas duelleerde in de slotfase van de Grand Prix met Lance Stroll. In het Foro Sol probeerde Stroll de Alfa Romeo van Bottas in te halen, maar dat ging niet helemaal naar wens. De Canadees werd geraakt door Bottas en hij spinde. Stroll reed daarna terug naar de pits en hij viel uit. Volgens de stewards voerde Stroll de inhaalactie volgens de regels uit en ging Bottas daarna wijd. Volgens hen was dit de schuld van Bottas en ze gaven hem een tijdstraf van vijf seconden en twee strafpunten op zijn superlicentie. Bottas zakt hierdoor van de veertiende naar de vijftiende plaats in de uitslag.
