Verstappen jaagt op zeventiende zege: "Moeten onze focus vasthouden"

Max Verstappen gaat aankomend weekend in Brazilië op jacht naar zijn zeventiende zege van het seizoen. Op het circuit van Interlagos wordt de zware triple header afgesloten en wordt er wederom een sprintrace verreden. Verstappen heeft er in ieder geval weer veel zin in en hij gaat jagen op zijn volgende zege.

Verstappen was in de afgelopen twee weken oppermachtig in de Formule 1. Op het Circuit of the Americas en afgelopen weekend op het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez kwam Verstappen als winnaar over de streep. Op het circuit van Interlagos kan hij nu zijn hattrick gaan voltooien, maar hij zal zich volledig moeten focussen. Voor de laatste keer dit seizoen wordt er immers een sprintrace verreden.

Focus

Verstappen leeft met veel vertrouwen toe naar de race in de Braziliaanse stad Sao Paulo. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur laat zich uit in zijn vooruitblik op het aanstaande raceweekend: "Ik kijk uit naar Brazilië. Het is de laatste race van een triple header en het is ook de laatste sprintrace van het seizoen. Na een goede race in Mexico gaan we dit weekend met vertrouwen in, maar we moeten wel onze focus vasthouden."

Records

Verstappen realiseert zich dat hij elk weekend een record verbreekt. De Nederlander is daar enorm trots op, maar dat betekent niet dat hij rustig aan gaat doen: "Het is waanzinnig om dit seizoen tot nu toe zestien overwinningen te hebben gehaald. Na vorig jaar had ik niet gedacht dat het mogelijk zou zijn om dat te herhalen, dus het toont alleen maar aan wat voor een geweldig seizoen we hebben. Ik waardeer al het harde werk en de inzet van iedereen in ons team. Ik ben blij dat we dat op het circuit kunnen laten zien. Nu ligt de focus op de zeventiende zege!"

Ik vraag me af of hij dit ook tegen zichzelf zegt. Waar ik niemand over hoor is dat Lewis de snelste ronde afsnoepte van Max in de laatste ronde. Naar mijn weten probeerde Max het niet eens. Wist hij dat hij niet sneller kon dan zijn voorgaande snelste ronde, of was zijn eigen focus weg waardoor hij niet doorhad dat Lewis die poging zou doen?
