Teleurstelling bij Perez: "Ik had een verschrikkelijke start"

Sergio Perez kwam vandaag als derde over de finish in de sprintrace op het circuit van Interlagos. In Sao Paulo kende Perez een moeilijke sprint waarin hij veel gevechten aan moest gaan. Perez geeft na afloop eerlijk toe dat het allemaal niet zo ging zoals hij had gehoopt.

Perez begon op kansrijke positie aan de sprintrace, maar bij de start konden alle plannetjes al de prullenbak in. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur kwam niet helemaal goed weg en hij verloor posities aan Mercedes-coureurs George Russell en Lewis Hamilton. Perez haalde beide Britten in en dat resulteerde in de derde plaats. Hij lag te ver achter op Max Verstappen en Lando Norris om nog te kunnen dromen van een beter resultaat.

Na afloop van de sprintrace was Perez dan ook niet helemaal tevreden. Hij kon zich wel vinden in zijn resultaat, maar in gesprek met interviewster van dienst Naomi Schiff was hij wel eerlijk: "Dit was geen simpele race. Ik had een verschrikkelijke start, ik verloor een plekje aan George en in bocht vier haalde ook Lewis mij in. Daarna moest ik echt gaan vechten en vroeg ik alles van mijn banden, daar betaalde ik later in de wedstrijd echt de prijs voor. Over het algemeen was het een goede dag, we hebben goede punten gescoord. Ik denk dat we met een betere start, ook beter hadden kunnen scoren."

Maar wel voor Hamilton, en dat is voor Checo het enige wat telt als hij zijn stoeltje bij RBR wil behouden. Al hoop ik dat der Helmut hem dan alsnog stiekum inruilt voor Alonso deze winter.

Checo was erg sterk in begin. Echter had ook hij zijn banden opgerookt door zijn duels met Lewis en George. Gelukkig hoeven de rijders morgen geen softs te gebruiken.

  Verplicht niet maar je wil natuurlijk een medium set overhouden voor de race van morgen op een baan als deze. Daarom startten ook veel rijders op de zachtste compound. En als je dan geen stops hebt. Kan je zulke taferelen verwachten.

  in Austin gingen de meesten toch voor de medium en werd Ferrari belachelijk gemaakt dat ze een medium wilden uitsparen voor de race. Ik weet het niet van alle coureurs maar volgens mij hebben Verstappen en Norris nog meerdere setjes nieuwe en amper gebruikte mediums. Vandaag op gebruikte softs starten was echt niet de enige keus die ze hadden maar waarschijnlijk wel de beste voor een dergelijke stintlengte. Vorig jaar was Verstappen samen met Latifi de enige op mediums in de sprint. Ging niet heel lekker toen. Op zondag startte iig de top 4 ook gewoon op de soft.

  Hij reed best sterk hoor. Hij vroeg alleen teveel van z’n banden door de duels met de Mercedes rijders. Echter is dat wel z’n eigen schuld door z’n slechte start.
