Strijdlustige Alonso trots: "We hebben een paar zware maanden achter de rug"

Fernando Alonso was vandaag één van de smaakmakers van de Braziliaanse Grand Prix. De Spaanse Aston Martin-coureur mocht eindelijk weer naar het podium, maar dat kreeg hij niet cadeau. Alonso was na afloop enorm tevreden over zijn epische duel met Sergio Perez.

Perez jaagde rondes lang op Alonso. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur leek veel sneller te zijn, maar hij kwam er simpelweg niet langs. Alonso verdedigde als een leeuw en dat zorgde voor veel frustratie bij Perez. In de slotfase dacht Perez dat hij Alonso te pakken had, maar de Spanjaard gaf niet op. In de laatste ronde sloeg hij toe en wist hij Perez nog maar net achter zich te houden.

Schreeuwend van enthousiasme sprong hij zijn monteurs in de armen. Na een ferme handdruk van interviewer van dienst Mark Webber, legde Alonso uit hoe zijn race ging: "Voor mij voelde het alsof ik dertig rondjes lang onder druk stond! Toen hij mij twee rondjes voor het einde voorbij stak, dacht ik dat het podium niet meer mogelijk was. Hij remde echter te laat in bocht 1 en toen wilde ik er wel voor gaan in bocht 4. Dit is een fenomenaal resultaat voor het team. We hebben een paar zware maanden achter de rug, in de laatste twee races vielen we twee keer uit."

    Dat was een hele mooie actie die Perez niet (meer) zag aankomen. Perez dacht dat hij er al was.
    Verder top gereden vandaag. Al denk ik wel dat de Aston Martin hier een prima auto was. Want Stroll stond er ook goed bij. En gisteren was dit ook goed voor beiden. Dus ondanks dat ik denk dat ze meer dan een prima wagen hadden vandaag, heeft Alonso vandaag ook weer laten zien waarom hij ondanks zijn leeftijd een plekje in de F1 verdient.

      Perez had de laatste ronde moeten inhalen zodat Alonso geen mogelijkheid had. Dit vond ik toch wat dommig en kon je zien aankomen.

      WIl je een podium kunnen rijden, dan moet de auto goed zijn. Dat de auto goed was hier doet helemaal niets af aan de prestatie van Alonso. Dito voor Norris en Verstappen. Die hebben een goede auto nodig voor een podium.

      Wat stond hij te genieten op het podium! Ik ook, hahaha.
      Ik was zo bang dat Perez eerder over de finish kwam, want Alonso
      verdiende die derde plaats.

      Dit was puur racen, met een miniem verschil in het voordeel van Alonso. Perez heeft gevochten en helaas voor hem nipt verloren. Maar het was Alonso die wat mij betreft dit duel mocht winnen. Overigens bewoog Perez extreem tijdens aanremmem bocht 4 nadat hij Alonso had ingehaald. Daar had hij een reprimande voor kunnen krijgen.

      Perez heeft veel te lang gewacht en bovendien op het verkeerde moment. Je kon de klok erop zetten dat Fernando m in de volgende DRS zou terugpakken.
      Desalniettemin een zeer indrukwekkende race van deze, nog altijd niet versleten topper!

    Red Bull had Perez misschien iets eerder naar binnen moeten halen dan hadden ze Aston Martin nog wat meer onder druk kunnen zetten.

      Lastig te zeggen. Hij had dan ook meer rondes op die laatste set moeten rijden. Alonso in een redelijke auto is gewoon een baas.

      de RB gaat het beste met de bandjes om dus het was een extra troef die je in had kunnen zetten. Alonso was op het eind van die 2e stint ook sneller dan Perez dus als je ze dan kunt dwingen om vroeger te stoppen haal je ook dat voordeel nog weg. Maar goed blijft idd wel lastig om te zeggen.

    Wat heb ik genoten van de laatste tien minuten van de race.....en mijn dotd.....ook dat nog.

      Was inderdaad erg mooi. Toen Perez aansloot dacht ik: Paar rondjes en Alonso van het podium af. Maar na een rondje of 5 dacht ik: nou.... misschien...
      5 rondjes voor het eind dacht ik: Alonso red bullt het!
      Na de inhaalactie van Perez: Balen... Geen het toe...
      Vervolgens bij het terugpakken: Jubel en big smile hier.
      Vervolgens dacht ik dat Perez hem toch had op de streep. Tot ik de stand links met de vlaggetjes zag.

      Vanaf het moment dat Perez aansloot had ik nergens meer aandacht voor. Wist niet wie er 5,6,7,8,9 of 10de is geworden.

    Een zeer sportieve Perez die Alonso een kus geeft tijdens zijn interview bij ViaPlay.
    Alonso werd er verlegen van. Mooi om te zien die twee.
