Verstappen vond zege niet simpel: "Kon mij geen fout veroorloven"

Max Verstappen schreef gisteren de Braziliaanse Grand Prix met speels gemak op zijn naam. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur was oppermachtig, maar hij vond zelf helemaal niet dat het makkelijk ging. Verstappen stelt namelijk dat hij zich geen fout kon veroorloven door de jagende Lando Norris.

Verstappen behield bij de start van de Grand Prix de leidende positie. Hij reed ook bij de herstart weg bij de rest van het veld, maar Lando Norris kwam steeds dichterbij. De Brit opende de jacht op Verstappen en hij reed zelfs eventjes in de DRS van de Red Bull. Norris liet het hier niet bij, want hij opende zelfs eventjes de aanval op Verstappen. Hij kwam er echter niet voorbij en Verstappen gaf de leiding niet uit handen.

Niet makkelijk

De zegetocht van Verstappen zag er verder vrij makkelijk uit, maar hij is het niet eens met die redenering. Na afloop van de race was Verstappen duidelijk in gesprek met de internationale media: "Het zag er misschien makkelijk uit, maar Lando bleek in staat om onze snelheid te spiegelen. Ik denk dat wij in de laatste vijf rondjes van een stint over betere banden beschikten. Toch kon ik mij geen fouten veroorloven en moest ik mij goed focussen."

Aanval

Verstappen moest ook goed op zijn banden letten, want slijtage kwam al snel om de hoek kijken. Hij had dat wel zien aankomen, maar dat gold niet voor de aanval van Norris: "Ik had niet verwacht dat hij een poging kon wagen in de eerste bocht, dus ik moest mijn batterij een beetje gebruiken. Daarna probeerde ik het gat te consolideren. Het was ook belangrijk om op je banden te letten, zodat je de eerste stint volgens plan kon afmaken. Gelukkig was de temperatuur wat lager."

Goed van Norris dat hij het probeerde, ondanks dat hij wat meer van zijn banden vroeg. Maximaal gepresteerd door beide, en Alonso niet te vergeten. Het zou mooi zijn als AM en Mclaren volgend jaar wat dichterbij RB kunnen komen.

Nee met een seconde in de broek was het weer zeer moeizaam Lewis 2.0.
Het is echt een wonder dat MAX kampioen kan worden met deze kruiwagen.
