Todt kritisch op Ferrari: "Wij profiteerden van de stabiliteit"

Het team van Ferrari is bezig met een wisselvallig seizoen in de Formule 1. Ze zijn tot nu toe de enige renstal die Red Bull Racing heeft verslagen, maar verder vallen hun resultaten vaak tegen. Jean Todt ziet het gebeuren en hij adviseert zijn voormalige werkgever om voor stabiliteit te kiezen.

Ferrari staat dit jaar voor het eerst onder leiding van teambaas Frédéric Vasseur. De Fransman kwam over van het team van Alfa Romeo en hij is de opvolger van Mattia Binotto. Binotto kreeg een paar jaar lang de kans bij Ferrari, maar ook hij werd na een aantal lastige maanden aan de kant gezet. Ferrari doet het nu niet per se beter dan vorig jaar, maar toch lijkt Vasseur voorlopig veel krediet te hebben.

Druk

Voormalig FIA-president én oud-teambaas van Ferrari Jean Todt ziet het team worstelen. Todt vindt het zonde en in gesprek met zijn landgenoten van Canal Plus komt hij met een advies: "Ferrari is een ander soort team, want ze zorgen voor meer passie en emotie dan andere teams. Als het niet werkt, dan staan ze onder druk van de Tifosi en de media. Dan wisselen ze van teambaas en dat is niet altijd een goede zaak."

Stabiliteit

Onder leiding van Todt had Ferrari de Formule 1 in haar greep. In die jaren heerste Michael Schumacher in de sport en gaf Ferrari hem een aantal legendarische wagens waarin hij kon domineren. Mede hierdoor wordt Ferrari gezien als het beste team ooit. Todt legt uit waarom Ferrari toen zo dominant was: "Toen ik de baas was bij Ferrari konden we veel successen boeken doordat we goed konden profiteren van de stabiliteit binnen ons team."

Ik heb MS op zien komen in de F1 en dat was echt wel even andere koffie dan Leclerc. Michael was een kneiterharde straatvechter die in zijn eerste jaren in de F1 menig gevecht heeft geleverd wat voor veel kritiek zorgde van fans, media en andere coureurs, waaronder ook ene Senna.

Voor Leclerc is de gifbeker nog steeds niet leeg. In Brazilië viel hij in de opwarmronde uit door een probleem met zijn wagen.
Er komen nog 2 races en het is voor hem te hopen dat er zich niet weer problemen voordoen of dat hij een gridstraf zou krijgen voor een nieuwe PU. Ik heb het even nagekeken.

Leclerc kreeg in Italië al zijn 4e PU.
Hij had op dat moment met PU 2 en PU 3 elk 6 races gereden.
In Brazilië reed hij het 7e race weekend met PU 4. (mits PU 3/PU4 nergens is ingezet)
Hij viel tijdens de opwarmronde uit met een hydraulisch probleem. Het scheen dat de
PU na 5 sec/meter geploft zou zijn als niet alles automatisch uitgeschakeld was.
Deze PU zou nog gewoon ingezet kunnen worden, maar hoeveel km's heeft hij er al mee gereden? Er waren ook de nodige sprintraces.

De vraag is of hij nog een nieuwe PU moet nemen, want die anderen zijn ook al minstens
6 races gebruikt en deze laatste waarschijnlijk 7 race weekenden op de race na.
Dat zou nl een gridstraf betekenen.

Andere tijden... en je had the GOAT Schumacher ook nog eens.
Tegenwoordig gaat he meer om 'sparend'-racen met bandenmanagement enz. Ook testen is zeer beperkt. Kortom, andere tijden en de kans tegenwoordig is juist groot als je nieuwe dingen durft te proberen... uiteraard met risico dat het niet de gewenste resultaten geeft.

  Wat dat betreft lijken de eerste jaren van Max veel meer die van Leclerc die al heel snel door veel fans en media een hand boven het hoofd gehouden werd als ie weer eens blunderde omdat ie zo lief sorry sorry zei.
  
  Met Schumacher afgelopen 4 jaar in de Ferrari had het team er inmiddels veel verder voor gestaan dan nu het geval is en zouden de Nederlandse Max fans zich onderhand vooral druk gemaakt hebben om die Schumacher die Max er al een paar keer geflikt had om er met de winst vandoor te gaan.
  
  Als Ferrari weer titels wil pakken moeten ze zsm Piastri een “offer hé can’t refuse” geven, Piastri heeft dezelfde koele en onverbiddelijke houding als Rookie die je terug zag bij Max, Lewis, Alonso, Schumacher, Senna, bij al die coureurs zag je meteen dat ze de basis snelheid hadden maar ook dat ze de mentaliteit van een kampioen hadden.
  
  Leclerc heeft dat niet, veel te vaak zakt ie er doorheen en loopt dan te jammeren of excuses te maken op een manier die je bij geen van de echte kampioenen ooit hebt gezien.

  Schumacher en Leclerc waren en zijn beiden zeer snelle coureurs, maar waar Schumacher voor Ferrari als een rots in de branding was lijkt Leclerc meer op een plak natte cake.

Ferrari is nu ook stabiel in het boeken van niet al te beste prestaties. Vooral op tactisch gebied en de daaruitvolgende wanvertoningen op de baan...
