Horner ontkent angst van Hamilton: "We hebben een goede basis"

Het team van Red Bull Racing heerst momenteel in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft vrijwel alle Grands Prix in het huidige seizoen gewonnen en ze zijn veel sneller dan de concurrentie. Lewis Hamilton vreest dat Red Bull ook in de aankomende jaren zal blijven heersen, maar Christian Horner heeft een andere mening.

Red Bull heeft dit seizoen een enorme voorsprong op de rest van het veld. Max Verstappen won slechts drie keer niet en hij heeft de wereldtitel dan ook al op zak. Zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez wist dit seizoen twee Grands Prix te winnen en hij verdedigt momenteel zijn tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap. Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton ziet het gebeuren en hij stelde eerder al dat Red Bull ook in de komende jaren een voorsprong zal hebben.

Windtunnel

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner is het daar niet mee eens. De Brit stelt dat ze niet te veel naar de toekomst kunnen kijken en bij Motorsport.com legt hij zijn mening uit: "Ik denk dat heel wat kampioenschappen in de windtunnel worden gewonnen. We hebben een goede auto met een goede basis. We moeten blijven evolueren, maar richting de top van deze ontwikkelingscurve worden de resultaten elke keer wat minder."

Motivatie

Horner verwacht dan ook dat de concurrentie in de komende jaren zal gaan aanhaken. Zijn team blijft dan ook hard doorwerken om dit moment zo lang mogelijk uit te stellen. Hij ziet dat de sfeer goed is: "Het gaat uiteindelijk allemaal wat dichterbij elkaar komen, maar dat motiveert ons team juist. Je kan zien dat niemand in ons team rustiger aan gaan doen, ze zijn nog steeds allemaal altijd volledig gemotiveerd."

Tsja, de stengere testlimieten en zeker de budgetcap zorgen ervoor dat een voorsprong langer stand houdt. Dat is een verschil tov vroeger.

  Tja, het feit dat de nummer 1 minder testtijd heeft in zowel windtunnel als cfd tijd zal ervoor zorgen dat een voorsprong minder lang stand houd, Dat is een verschil tov vroeger.

  Hoelang duirde die mercedes dominantie voor de budgetcap ook al weer plus het verschil tussen nr 1 en nr 20 was toen meer dan 3 seconden in de kwali en de race nog meer. Nu zit het hele veld binnen 1,5 secomden

  @MTR-F1 Dat is echter een onvoorspelbaar verschil, omdat ook daar weer het verschil in kwaliteit van personeel en materieel uitmaakt. Als je een grote voorsprong hebt, moet de hoeveelheid minder windtunnel/CFD-tijd wel dermate uitmaken dat de anderen ook kunnen bijhaken.
  
  En stel dat iemand een probleem heeft met bijv personeel-uitval of materiële problemen, denk aan een Williams die door de cap hun faciliteiten beperkt moeten houden ipv deze uit te breiden, dan blijft de status quo dus gewoon in stand.
  
  Het zou moeten kunnen dat door meer inzet of het aantrekken van betere bronnen, je gewoon een betere output kan krijgen.
  
  @Nico 2021 was uitkomst van een budgetcap-loze periode. Dat was inderdaad spannend. Verder hadden we in 2017 en 2018 ook gewoon een aardige wisselwerking. En Red Bull had erbij gezeten als ze een goede motor hadden gehad.
