Horner ziet geheim talent Verstappen: "Hij kijkt naar de lange termijn"

Max Verstappen heeft dit seizoen al zeventien Grands Prix gewonnen. De Nederlander vecht vrijwel elk raceweekend mee om de zeges. Hij ontvangt veel complimenten en volgens Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner kan Verstappen vandaag de dag de races enorm goed lezen.

Verstappen wint zijn races vaak met een grote voorsprong zonder dat hij echt hoeft te vechten met zijn concurrenten. Afgelopen weekend in Brazilië kwam Lando Norris heel eventjes in de buurt van Verstappen, maar de Nederlander trapte het gaspedaal in en daarna sloeg hij weer een groot gat. Verstappen heeft dit wel vaker gedaan en men zoekt naar antwoorden. Zijn teambaas Christian Horner is daar inmiddels al achter gekomen.

Horner ziet dat Verstappen in de afgelopen jaren steeds beter en beter is geworden in het managen van zijn race. Volgens de Brit weet Verstappen precies wat het juiste moment is om harder te gaan rijden. In gesprek met Motorsport.com is Horner duidelijk: "Iedereen managet zijn tempo in de race anders, maar ik denk dat Max wel heel goed is geworden in het lezen van de wedstrijd. Hij raakt niet in paniek als hij ziet dat iemand tijd van hem afsnoept in bijvoorbeeld de tweede sector. Dit komt omdat hij naar de lange termijn kijkt. Hij heeft gewoon het vertrouwen dat hij weet hoe het ervoor staat."
