Voormalig rivaal ziet wrede Verstappen: "Hij is veel rustiger geworden"

Het team van Red Bull Racing maakt dit jaar veel indruk in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal heeft dit seizoen slechts één Grand Prix niet gewonnen en ze hebben met Max Verstappen de regerend wereldkampioen onder contract staan. Volgens Cyril Abiteboul is Red Bull bezig met een verbazingwekkende reeks.

Red Bull lijkt voorlopig nog wel even aan de macht te blijven in de Formule 1. Aangezien de regels pas in 2026 op de schop gaan, is de kans groot dat Red Bull blijft heersen. Ze maken veel indruk, ook voormalig Renault-teambaas Cyril Abiteboul gelooft zijn ogen niet. Abiteboul was bij Renault niet altijd zo geliefd bij Red Bull, maar inmiddels liggen de verhoudingen iets anders. Hij is nu de motorsportbaas van Hyundai en hij zijn band met Red Bull is beter geworden.

Ongevoelig

Abiteboul is heeft erg te spreken over de huidige resultaten van Red Bull. De Franse motorsportbaas stelt in gesprek met France Info dat Red Bull bezig is met iets wat praktisch onmogelijk is: "Iedereen heeft zijn ups en downs gehad, zijn briljante momenten en ook zijn problemen. Red Bull liep gewoon over water. Het is verbazingwekkend omdat ze ongevoelig lijken te zijn voor alles. Ze zijn ongevoelig voor alle variabelen, het maakt niet uit of dat de wind, de temperatuur of het ground effect is. Dat maakt het nog indrukwekkender."

Abiteboul is daarnaast ook van mening dat Max Verstappen bezig is met een bizarre reeks. De Hyundai-baas ziet iets bijzonders gebeuren en dat deelt hij: "Het is echt wreed. Verstappen is zó sterk dat hij gewoon in staat is om een coureur zoals Sergio Perez, die toch best veel heeft meegemaakt, op de grond te drukken en zelfs te breken. Er komt veel volwassenheid vanuit Red Bull en vanuit Max. Ik denk dat hij veel rustiger is geworden."

Ik had hier Max op de cover van The Las Vegas TIME geplaatst.
De inhoud van het artikel was helaas niet voor mensen buiten de USA te lezen.

Ondanks wat clowneske uitspraken van hem in het verleden jegens RBR kon ik deze man wel waarderen. Grootste verdienste van hem was om een Ricciardo weg te lokken bij RBR, omdat zij met Honda motoren zouden gaan rijden. We weten allemaal wel wat de echte motivatie van Daniël was. Niemand zag het ib Renault en hij dacht serieus dat die RBR voorbij zouden gaan?

Dat gaf gewoon de doorslag en ook al heeft hij nu wat magere jaren gekend, door de deal voor twee jaar bij Renol te tekenen hoeft hij nu nooit meer te werken.
  Als hij naast Max was gebleven dan was hij keer op keer verpletterd en steeds harder. Dan was hij uiteindelijk ook geen drol meer waard geweest. De keuze om te vertrekken was misschien niet de beste maar zeker wel verdedigbaar.

  Als het zou regen zou Verstappen wel met 2 vingers in de neus winnen. Dat doet hij al 5 jaar. Iedereen de moeder rijden in de regen.
  Maak er maar gerust van: MAX vliegt over water!

  Red Bull loopt over water simpele. Het is een operatie van 1000 man. Dat Max daarin samen met een heel klein groepje in voorop loopt is duidelijk, maar met een motor die je .5 seconde kost per ronde wordt ook Max geen WDC.
  Wat Honda heeft gedaan vanuit hun achterstand en wat Newey en Wache uit de pen laten komen is genoeg verering waard.
