Horner gelooft in Perez: "Hij heeft de hulp van Max niet nodig"

Sergio Perez heeft de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap bijna definitief in handen. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur heeft een aantal zware maanden achter de rug, maar hij is nu weer in vorm. Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner heeft veel vertrouwen in zijn Mexicaanse coureur.

Terwijl Max Verstappen schitterde, zakte Perez door het ijs. In de afgelopen maanden verbrak Verstappen meerdere records en daarmee bezorgde hij Red Bull veel vreugde. Bij de Oostenrijkse renstal moesten ze hun emoties verdelen, want Perez worstelde met zijn vorm en zijn resultaten werden steeds slechter en slechter. Na maanden vol speculaties liet Red Bull weten dat Perez in 2024 gewoon voor het team rijdt en dat ze veel vertrouwen in hem hebben.

Perez strijdt met Lewis Hamilton om de tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap. Bij een goed resultaat in Las Vegas heeft Perez die strijdt zo goed als zeker gewonnen. In gesprek met Bloomberg is Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner duidelijk: "Ik denk niet dat hij de hulp van Max nodig heeft. Hij moet voor of vlak achter Lewis finishen in Vegas om die plek veilig te stellen. We behandelen de aankomende races als een soort bekerfinales, zo werken we al sinds we een paar races geleden het wereldkampioenschappen hebben gewonnen in Qatar."

  In de race heb je gelijk in, een paar slipstreams op het rechte stuk (die er nogal wat zijn de komende 2 races) tijdens de kwalificatie zou Perez aan een betere startpositie kunnen helpen.
  Maar de echte hulp is gekomen door Mercedes zelf, de diskwalificatie in Austin en de zeperd in Brazilië.
  Wie er uiteindelijk met die tweede plaats vandoor gaat maakt mij zoveel niet uit.

  Om een juist beeld van het seizoen te krijgen zouden ze de tweede, derde en vierde plaats moeten schrappen, zodat Hamilton of Perez hooguit vijfde kan worden...

Die tweede plaats dat is allang geen issue meer toch? 32 punten voorsprong.

Moet Perez het wel heel erg verknallen, en dan ook nog Hamilton 2 vette podiums halen.
Gebeurt niet.

  Checo moet gewoon ongeschonden over de finish komen en punten scoren, Hamilton moet P2 halen en in Abu Dhabi idem, terwijl de Mercedes niet uit zal blinken in Vegas als ik een tech-talk artikel goed begrijp. Hamilton heeft wel Alonso achter zich (28 punten verschil) die vast zijn richting op wil bewegen en achter Alonso zitten Norris (3 puntjes verschil) en Sainz (weer 3 puntjes op Norris).. Ook Aston M. en McLaren zullen het volgens tech-talk niet makkelijk krijgen, maar... de Ferrari zou wel verrassend voor de dag kunnen komen (net als de Williams..) Genoeg te zien denk ik
