Perez jaagt op historie in Las Vegas: "Dit wordt een grandioze race"

Sergio Perez kan in Las Vegas zijn tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap veiligstellen. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur gaat in de straten van de gokstad op jacht naar een topresultaat. Hij kan hiermee het eerste Red Bull 1-2tje in het WK ooit pakken. Perez heeft er veel zin in en hij verwacht een unieke ervaring.

Perez kan zijn lastige seizoen op een positieve manier gaan afsluiten in Las Vegas en Abu Dhabi. De Mexicaan heeft een aantal zware maanden achter de rug, maar in de laatste paar weken ging het steeds wat beter met hem. In de recente triple header liet hij veel positieve dingen zien en in Las Vegas moet hij ervoor zorgen dat hij het weekend afsluit met 26 punten voorsprong op Lewis Hamilton. Als Perez dat voor elkaar krijgt, dan is de tweede plaats een zekerheidje.

Grandioos

Perez heeft er in ieder geval zeer veel zin in om te racen in Las Vegas. De Mexicaan is enthousiast en hij deelt zijn gevoel in zijn vooruitblik: "Vegas wordt een grandioze race. De hele stad is al door onze sport overgenomen. Het gaat uniek zijn om door de straten van Vegas te rijden. Vorig jaar mocht ik er al eventjes aan proeven. Toen reed ik tijdens de launch met de RB7. Het was gek om over de Strip te racen, terwijl ik er eerder als toerist kwam."

Koud

Perez verwacht dat het stratencircuit voor een grote hoeveelheid uitdagingen zal gaan zorgen. De Mexicaan is daar heel realistisch over: "Vegas gaat ons uitdagen. De baan zal koud zijn en de auto gaat denk ik heel erg anders reageren in deze temperaturen. Het is iets dat we onder de knie moeten krijgen. Achter de schermen is er al hard gewerkt om dit weekend om te toveren in een succes. Voor mij betekent dit dat ik die tweede plaats in het wereldkampioenschap wil veiligstellen."
