Stroll geen fan van show in Las Vegas: "Ik ben geen Hollywood-ster"

Het raceweekend in Las Vegas is niet alleen een autosportevenement, maar ook een enorme show. Tijdens de mediadag moesten alle coureurs aanwezig zijn bij een bombastische openingsceremonie. Lance Stroll vond dit overbodig en hij stelt dat de Formule 1 niet te veel op een Hollywood-show moet gaan lijken.

De show en de sport gaan hand in hand in Las Vegas. De teams en coureurs houden zich vooral bezig met de activiteiten op de baan, maar daar omheen is er veel te doen. De casino's, hotels en de enorme Sphere vormen het decor van het circuit. In de wereldberoemde gokstad worden de coureurs voorafgaand de race voorgesteld aan de fans en op de mediadag was er ook een speciale openingsceremonie. De coureurs moesten hierbij aanwezig zijn.

Hollywood

Niet alle coureurs zijn hier fan van. Max Verstappen is zeer kritisch en hij krijgt steun van Lance Stroll. De Canadees had liever niet deelgenomen aan de ceremonie en hij wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Het is niet helemaal mijn ding. Ik heb hier niet voor getekend. Wij zijn gewoon coureurs. Soms denk ik dat we teveel worden neergezet als Hollywood-sterren. Ik wil gewoon racen in auto's en ik wil geen Hollywood-ster spelen."

Business

Stroll begrijpt echter wel dat de Verenigde Staten een belangrijke markt is voor de Formule 1. De Canadese Aston Martin-coureur is dan ook geen tegenstander van de drie races in de States: "Ik denk dat het geweldig is voor de sport dat we naar dit soort plekken gaan. We hebben de Amerikaanse markt breder gemaakt en dat is geweldig voor het team. Het is ook geweldig voor de business, daar moet de Formule 1 aan denken."

Juist al het massale trekt hij zich terug terwijl 1 op 1 vaak een prima gesprek uit rolt.

Ow goed om te weten. Ik had Stroll opgeschreven als iemand die dit juist wel geweldig vindt allemaal: Vol in de schijnwerpers in een stad waar je meetelt zolang je maar sloten met geld hebt.

Maar goed: de jongen doet wel z'n best op de baan de laatste weken, om de critici de mond te snoeren.
Misschien is 'ie als coureur aan z'n tweede jeugd begonnen?

  T zou voor mij veel verklaren als hij dit is. Twee goede vrienden zijn introverts en daar kan ik fantastische gesprekken mee aangaan... tot we in een massale situatie terecht komen, dan trekken ze zich terug en zijn voor buitenstaanders zelfs socialy awkward (volgens die buitenstaanders)
