Polesitter Leclerc zelfkritisch: "Ik baal van mijn rondjes"

Charles Leclerc heeft geschiedenis geschreven door als eerste coureur ooit de pole position te pakken in de straten van Las Vegas. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur liet zich niet afleiden door de felle lichten van de casino's en hij vloog naar de pole, daar was hij zeer blij mee.

Ferrari rook zijn kans in Las Vegas. De Italiaanse renstal oogt al het hele weekend zeer snel en dat bleek ook weer in de kwalificatie. In alle drie de sessies waren de rode auto's bovenaan de tijdenlijsten te vinden. Aangezien Carlos Sainz een gridstraf heeft gekregen, lag de druk op de schouders van Leclerc. De Monegask deed wat hij moest doen en hij was nipt sneller dan zijn teamgenoot.

Twee gedachten

Leclerc was daar dan ook tevreden mee. Hij zwaaide enthousiast naar het publiek en daarna sprak hij met interviewer van dienst James Hinchcliffe: "Ik ben blij. Het feit dat ik de eerste pole mag pakken in Las Vegas, is echt geweldig. Het is ook een prachtig evenement. Het is top dat ik vanaf pole mag gaan starten. Maar, ik baal wel van mijn rondjes in Q3. Ik had het niet goed genoeg gedaan, maar het was dus wel goed genoeg voor de pole."

Leclerc wint niet vaak vanaf de pole, maar daar wil hij in de race in Las Vegas dus verandering in gaan brengen. De Monegask is duidelijk over wat zijn doel is: "Alle focus gaat nu naar de race. Normaal gesproken komen we daarin veel pace te kort. Ik hoop dus dat we daar alles voor elkaar kunnen gaan krijgen en dat we hier kunnen gaan winnen."

Leclerc heeft een bull poles op zijn naam staan, maar ik gok dat hij die morgen weer niet weet te verzilveren en daarmee (net als Max) ook een recordje gaat pakken.

Beetje overdone als hij echt niet tevreden is Het was de beste ronde en perfectie ansich levert geen punten op. Morgen is het zaak voor hem de snelheid erin te houden en tegelijk de banden te managen. En de race te winnen.

Wat een fenomeen zoveel poles pakken met de 3e auto van de grid.
Erg jammer dat de Ferrari in de race zo zwak is met de bandjes.
