Horner wijst tactiek aan als oorzaak rampzalige kwalificatie Perez

Het team van Red Bull Racing kende in Las Vegas zeker niet de beste kwalificatie uit hun bestaan. De Oostenrijkse renstal moest tijd toegeven op Ferrari en Sergio Perez viel zelfs al af in Q2. Teambaas Christian Horner stelt dat de tactiek van Perez niet werkte.

Red Bull wist bij het ingaan van de kwalificatie al dat ze iets langzamer waren dan het team van Ferrari. Maar, er kon van alles gebeuren en Red Bull ging dan ook all in. Het balletje rolde echter niet kun kant op en dat resulteerde in de derde tijd van Max Verstappen en de teleurstellende twaalfde tijd van Sergio Perez. Beide coureurs zullen op de startopstelling een plekje stijgen door de straf van Carlos Sainz.

Ferrari

Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner reageerde na afloop zeker niet teleurgesteld. De Brit wist wat er ging gebeuren en hij sprak zich uit bij Sky Sports: "Ferrari is heel erg snel over een enkele ronde. De karakteristieken van hun auto zorgt ervoor dat de banden harder werken. Om eerlijk te zijn wel verwacht dat het zo zou gaan. Ik wil Charles feliciteren en het zal morgen een heel interessante race gaan worden."

Perez

Horner keek ook nog eventjes terug op de pijnlijke exit van Sergio Perez in het tweede gedeelte van de kwalificatie. Horner geeft aan dat het plan niet goed uitpakte: "Hij ging eerder dan de rest de baan op. We hadden slechts de beschikking over drie setjes softs in de kwalificatie. Om te voorkomen dat hij in het verkeer terecht zou komen, reed hij zijn laatste rondje iets eerder dan de rest. Hij kwam daardoor een tiende te kort."

  Als Sergio gewoon eens consequent twee tienden harder rijdt, wat hij in het verleden heeft laten zien makkelijk te kunnen, dan komen ze überhaupt niet meer elke keer in de problemen.
  Als de rijder te traag is dan kan je wel tactiek en de rest van het team de schuld geven maar het blijft de rijder die gewoon echt veel te traag is. Het gaat hier niet om Q3 hè maar we praten nog over Q2. Dat moet met de ogen dicht kunnen als je in de winnende RB zit en op niveau van een goede F1 rijder presteert. Perez heeft op dit moment het vorm niveau van Daniël te pakken. Dat is niet goed genoeg. Dat Lewis er ook niks van bakt is het geluk dat Perez nodig had.

  Volgens mij is dit een beslissing van engineer en coureur samen. De coureur weet wat hij nodig heeft om een snelle ronde neer te zetten. Denk niet dat je één persoon moet aanwijzen in dit geval.
  Uiteindelijk is de ronde van Perez niet snel genoeg, zo simpel is het.

  Dat lijkt mij ook @NicoS, als het van Hannah zou komen zou zij het bij Max meestal goed doorgeven en bij Perez (heel) vaak verkeerd, dat lijkt mij onwerkelijk...

  Nee dit was meteen overduidelijk een teamfout. Ook bij Skyf1 vroegen ze zich al meteen af of Perez' tijd genoeg zou zijn, en het was ook heel snel duidelijk dat het fout ging.
  Bovendien zat Perez er in Q1 duidelijk wel bij.
  
  Overigens is het wel weer typisch , natuurlijk, dat het hem gebeurt. Die jongen had ook zelf kunnen zeggen: Ik wil nog een keer.

Wel een beginnersfout zeg. Je weet hoe veel sneller een stratencircuit altijd is aan het eind van de sessie. Dit zou Max niet eens overkomen trouwens. Die zou bij het idee al vragen of ze dronken zijn.
