Officieel: De Vries tekent fabriekscontract bij Toyota

Het hing al eventjes in de lucht, maar het is nu officieel geworden. Nyck de Vries rijdt volgend seizoen voor het topteam van Toyota in het World Endurance Championship. De Nederlandse coureur gaat deze rol combineren met een seizoen in de Formule E.

De Vries reed dit jaar in de Formule 1 voor het team van AlphaTauri, maar na een aantal teleurstellende resultaten werd hij vervangen door Daniel Ricciardo. De Vries kondigde een mediastilte aan en hij trok zich eventjes terug. Enkele maanden geleden werd bekend dat De Vries in de Formule E gaat rijden voor het team van Mahindra. Hij werd ook al gelinkt aan een zitje bij Toyota, maar niets was nog officieel.

Vandaag heeft Toyota bevestigd dat De Vries in het aankomende WEC-seizoen plaatsneemt in de Hypercar met startnummer 7. Hij wordt de nieuwe teamgenoot van Mike Conway en Kamui Kobayashi. Dit betekent dat José Maria Lopez het team heeft verlaten. Toyota is al jarenlang één van de topteams in het WEC. In de Hypercar-klasse krijgen ze aankomend seizoen stevige concurrentie van onder meer Ferrari, Porsche, Alpine, Cadillac, BMW en Peugeot.

leuk voor hem, en gezien eerdere resultaten denk ik dat het WEC hem ook een stuk beter ligt.

Past veel beter bij hem aangezien hij het altijd over “wij” heeft ipv ik. Dan is het wel makkelijk als je als team rijdt en elkaar afwisselt.

Mooi plekje om bij de regerend kampioenen te zitten. Mooie line-up ook. Conway en Kobayashi zijn mooi ervaren maar in iedergeval minder agressief dan Lopez.

Lopez vond ik altijd de vreemde eend in de bijt van Toyota.

Mooi zitje. WEC is ook gewoon een mooie klasse met een flinke vertegenwoordiging van merken. De industrie lijkt het ook veel interessanter te vinden dan de F1. ben benieuwd of naast endurance we Nyck misschien ook in andere klassen gaan zien voor het merk (of misschien andere merken).
