Perez wil vlammen: "Dit was voor mij een zwaar seizoen"

Sergio Perez arriveert vandaag met een gerust hart in Abu Dhabi. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur stelde in Las Vegas de tweede plek in het wereldkampioenschap veilig en dit weekend gaat hij opnieuw op jacht naar een goed resultaat. Perez geeft toe dat hij een zwaar seizoen achter de rug heeft.

Red Bull was dit seizoen oppermachtig, maar Sergio Perez wist slechts twee Grands Prix te winnen. Aan het begin van het jaar kwam hij als winnaar over de streep in Saoedi-Arabië en Azerbeidzjan. Daarna zakten de resultaten van Perez in en maakte hij vaker foutjes. Deze fouten kwamen hem duur te staan, want hij viel regelmatig vroegtijdig af in de kwalificatie. Zijn achterstand op teamgenoot Max Verstappen groeide en hij worstelde geruime tijd met zijn vorm.

Zwaar seizoen

In de laatste paar races ging het steeds wat beter en in Las Vegas stelde Perez dus de tweede plaats veilig. In zijn preview leeft Perez toe naar de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi: "De laatste race van 2023! Het is voor mij een zwaar seizoen geweest met hoogte- en dieptepunten. Dat ik de tweede plek al heb veroverd, stemt mij enorm tevreden. Ik wil het seizoen op een mooie manier afsluiten, dus ik ga er hard voor werken en ervoor zorgen dat we de auto goed afstellen."

Vegas

Perez heeft veel vertrouwen in een goed resultaat op het circuit van Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. De Mexicaanse Red Bull-coureur heeft veel zelfvertrouwen en dat komt door de goede resultaten van vorige week: "In Vegas hadden we een geweldige pace te pakken en in de laatste twee weken heb ik veel leuke races gereden. Ik wil wederom het maximale uit de auto gaan halen. Als dat lukt, dan gaan we een succesvolle zaterdag en zondag tegemoet."

    Perez ziet nu in dat ook hij er voor moet vechten. Dan komen de resultaten vanzelf. Max heeft een hogere basissnelheid. Waardoor het voor hem makkelijker is. maar dat neemt niet weg dat max geen vechter is. Dat zie je als het even tegenzit. Perez moet standaard een stapje bijzetten om in de buurt van max te komen. en af en toe komt dat er ook wel uit.

      Dat de resultaten vanzelf komen als Perez z’n best gaat doen. Niks te halen naast Verstappen. Achter Verstappen nog wel iets.

    Tja, hij zal zich inmiddels realiseren dat hij gewoon structureel tekort komt ten opzichte van Verstappen.
    Dat is geen schande, maar dat zal mentaal wel een dingetje zijn geweest dit jaar.
    Als hij dat kan accepteren, moet hij komend seizoen beter en vooral stabieler kunnen presteren. Dat heeft Red Bull ook nodig, want het is niet realistisch te denken dat de Red Bull dan weer zo dominant zal zijn in handen van Verstappen. Dus dan hebben ze Perez ook echt nodig om punten bij de concurrenten vandaan te halen.

      Misschien had ik moeten zeggen ".. niet realistisch te verwachten.. ".
      Uiteraard kan het wel, maar sommige andere teams zullen ook een stap vooruit zetten. Vooral de teams die inmiddels het concept goed begrijpen zullen daarop verder kunnen bouwen. Zoals McLaren bijvoorbeeld.

      Red Bull zal nog wel een voorsprong hebben, maar of dat ook betekent dat ze met vooral Max weer iedereen op een hoop zullen rijden, is maar de vraag. Als McLaren elke race ook podiumplaatsen pakt, dan zullen die best dichtbij kunnen komen. En dan heb je wel Pérez nodig om die extra punten te pakken, waar Verstappen dit jaar het constructeurs kampioenschap in zijn eentje ook had gewonnen.

      Red Bull had dit jaar ook geluk dat de strijd achter hen heel close was, waardoor die teams (Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston, McLaren) steeds punten van elkaar afpakten. Als je volgend jaar steeds hetzelfde team hebt dat op P2 eindigt, loop je ook niet zo hard weg.

    Ik zie liever Perez dan Riciardo, vandaag ook weer met de pers conferentie die constante paardesmoel en vervelende grapjes!! Die kan zo aanschuiven bij Kamphus en Doornbos.

    O.T. Perez heeft bij mij in Vegas wel punten gescoord. Hij bleef zo heerlijk cool toen die aankondiger op 50cm afstand zijn naam recht in zijn gezicht stond te schreeuwen. Legendarische beelden
