Leclerc goudeerlijk: "Het is een teleurstellend seizoen"

Het team van Ferrari kan dit weekend nog de tweede plaats in het constructeurskampioenschap gaan pakken. Bij de Italiaanse renstal hebben ze zich stevig herpakt na een teleurstellende seizoenstart. Charles Leclerc geeft eerlijk toe dat hij het een teleurstellend jaar vindt.

Leclerc vocht vorig jaar nog eventjes mee om de wereldtitel. In de eerste seizoenshelft van 2022 kon hij Max Verstappen nog uitdagen, maar daarna zakten zijn resultaten in. Momenteel heeft Leclerc het zwaar, hij kon in de afgelopen weken nog meevechten met Max Verstappen, maar hij staat wel slechts zevende in het wereldkampioenschap. Ferrari moet dan ook stappen gaan zetten richting het volgende seizoen.

Teleurstelling

Leclerc is dan ook eerlijk over de performance van Ferrari dit jaar. In Abu Dhabi moest hij zich melden op de persconferentie en daar sprak de Monegask zich uit: "Het was een teleurstellend seizoen. We hadden na vorig jaar wel verwacht om voor het kampioenschap te vechten. Maar, na de eerste race begrepen we al dat het lastig zou worden om Red Bull te verslaan. Ze hebben een grote stap gezet, vooral qua racepace. We hebben niet dezelfde stap gezet, maar het was wel een pijnlijke teleurstelling."

Leclerc is wel van mening dat Ferrari goede stappen heeft gezet tijdens het seizoen. De Monegask is daar zeer trots op en hij deelt dan ook complimenten uit: "Ik denk dat we veel progressie hebben geboekt tijdens het seizoen. Dat is positief en dat geeft mij veel vertrouwen voor de toekomst. Het gat met de Red Bulls is alleen nog wel groot. Tijdens de winterstop moeten we dus nog wel hard gaan werken. Dan kunnen we hopelijk volgend jaar terugkomen met een auto die kan winnen."

Zo eindigde Verstappen ook elk seizoen tussen 2017-2020. Teleurstelling na de eerste race en aan het einde een sprankje hoop. Hopelijk lukt het een team aan te haken voor de regel wijziging net zoals het RB lukte in 2021. Anders wint Max ze volgend jaar écht allemaal.

  Omdat je toen al wist dat hij speciale dingen aan het doen was die tot deze Maxterclass zou gaan leiden.

  @Royalere: klopt helemaal, was met regelmaat spannend, soms eerder van het werk naar huis, reed Max na 150 meter schade, einde race. Maarja "part of de game".

Voor een succesvol seizoen moet Ferrari zich op de volgende drie o's verbeteren:
1. de autO.
2. de strategiO.
3. de cOureurs.

Gewoon een goeie gast. Kan goed racen maar heeft alleen teveel passie voor Ferrari. Kan daardoor niet met z'n vuist op tafel slaan wanneer dat wel nodig is. Die hele Ferrari cultuur past wel bij hem maar zal er niet voor zorgen dat hij voor kampioenschappen kan vechten. Daar heb je toch echt een soort van Shumacher voor nodig die een team naar z'n hand kan zetten. Of een Verstappen die dat bij Red Bull flikt. Ferrari's grootste tegenstander is Ferrari.
