Verstappen moest race-engineer Lambiase missen in VT2

Wie goed luisterde, merkte dat Max Verstappen vandaag over de boordradio communiceerde met iemand anders dan normaal. Zijn vaste race-engineer Gianpiero Lambiase was wel aanwezig, maar vervulde een andere rol. Lambiase zal morgen gewoon weer zijn normale rol op zich nemen.

Verstappen werd tijdens de eerste vrije training vervangen door Formule E-kampioen Jake Dennis. De Britse coureur werd ingezet als rookie aangezien Red Bull nog aan de vrije trainingen voor jonge coureurs moest voldoen. Tijdens deze sessie werkte Dennis ook niet met Lambiase als race-engineer. Tijdens de twee training viel op dat Verstappen ook samenwerkte met iemand anders, dit was echter alleen eenmalig het geval.

Verstappen communiceerde in VT2 met performance-engineer Tom Hart. Hij mocht eenmalig de diensten Lambiase overnemen, die was overigens wel gewoon aanwezig op de pitmuur van Red Bull. Morgen zal alles weer als vanouds zijn tijdens de derde vrije training en de kwalificatie. Voor Hart was het dus ook een soort experiment, het lijkt er ook niet op dat Red Bull eraan denkt om hem de vaste race-engineer van Verstappen te maken. Dat zou vreemd zijn, want Verstappen gaf eerder al aan dat hij zonder Lambiase niet zou kunnen werken. Lambiase denkt hier hetzelfde over, zo deelde hij recent.
