Wolff reageert op crashes: "Ze moeten de rijhoogte aanpassen"

De tweede vrije training in Abu Dhabi werd vandaag ontsierd door crashes van Nico Hülkenberg en Carlos Sainz. Beide coureurs verloren de macht over het stuur waarna ze de muur in vlogen. Volgens Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff moeten de teams hun rijhoogte aanpassen en hoeft er niets te veranderen aan de baan.

De crash van Sainz zorgde ervoor dat de tweede vrije training geruime tijd stil lag. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur verloor de macht over het stuur nadat hij over een kleine hobbel in het circuit was gereden. Op dezelfde plek hadden veel andere coureurs ook al problemen in de eerste vrije training. Ook Hülkenberg crashte nadat hij ineens de controle over zijn Haas verloor, critici riepen daarna dat er misschien naar de baan moest worden gekeken.

Rijhoogte

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is van mening dat de andere teams hun auto moeten gaan aanpassen. De Oostenrijker is daar nogal duidelijk over in gesprek met de Duitse tak van Sky Sports: "Ik denk dat de auto's nu een erg lage rijhoogte hebben omdat je daardoor natuurlijk meer snelheid kan vinden. Je zag dat bij Nico. We konden deze bocht altijd vol nemen, ook in de ochtendsessie. Nu was dat echter niet meer mogelijk."

Baan aanpassen

De baan hoeft van Wolff dan ook niet te worden aangepast. De Oostenrijker merk weinig problemen bij zijn eigen team en hij vindt het dan ook te ver gaan om last minute wijzingen door te voeren aan het circuit van Yas Marina. Hij raadt zijn concullega's aan om zelf na te denken: "Ik denk dat je gewoon de rijhoogte moet aanpassen en misschien wat langzamer moet rijden. Dan lever je natuurlijk wel wat snelheid in."

Goh, is dit niet precies wat Horner tegen Wolff zei toen Mercedes zo'n last had van porpoising? En dat Mercedes toen niets deed behalve janken totdat de FIA weer eens de regels aanpaste ten gunste van Mercedes?

Natuurlijk wil hij nu niet dat de FIA de regels gaat aanpassen want dan zijn ze zelf ook weer de lul. Als Ferrari de rijhoogte moet aanpassen is het voor Mercedes eenvoudiger om P2 in het constructeurskampioenschap te behalen. Die kwal haalt in ieder geval 1 trofee binnen dit jaar namelijk die van meest onsportief figuur binnen de F1 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮
