Perez kraakt stewards af: "Ze hebben het slecht gedaan vandaag"

Sergio Perez eindigde het seizoen met een bittere teleurstelling. De Mexicaanse Red Bull Racing-coureur werd bestraft met een tijdstraf van vijf seconden. Perez raakte de McLaren van Lando Norris en dat was volgens de stewards dus tegen de regels. Perez is het daar niet helemaal mee eens.

Perez duelleerde in de slotfase van de Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi met McLaren-coureur Lando Norris. Bij het insturen van de eerste bocht na het rechte stuk raakten de twee coureurs elkaar. Perez werd als schuldige aangewezen omdat hij de inhaalactie inzette. De Mexicaan was het hier niet mee eens en hij verloor hierdoor ook zijn podiumplaats. Hij vindt zichzelf nu terug op de vierde plaats in de uitslag.

Kritisch

De stewards konden niet op complimenten van Perez rekenen na afloop van de race. Hij was trots op zijn team, maar in gesprek met Sky Sports was hij enorm kritisch op de stewards: "Naar mijn mening hebben de stewards het vandaag heel erg slecht gedaan. We hebben veel ergere dingen gezien. We raakten elkaar band op band en Lando sneed daardoor de bocht af. En dan geven ze mij alsnog een penalty."

Incident

Perez heeft niet veel medestanders in deze zaak. De analisten van Sky geven namelijk aan dat hij de bocht iets anders had kunnen aansnijden. Perez is het daar niet mee eens: "Je moet wel in je achterhoofd houden dat als je iemand gaat inhalen en daardoor laat moet remmen, je niet altijd de volledige controle hebt over de auto. Lando wist dat ik daar zat en hij besluit toch in te sturen. We raakten elkaar op de banden. Ik denk gewoon dat het een race-incident is."

Ze konden hem geven en daarom hebben ze het gedaan.
Deze straf was ten nadele van Ferrari als je het zo bekijkt en in het voordeel van Mercedes.

Nu zie ik misschien dingen die ik wil zien omdat ik die Wolf en consorten geen 2e plek gun en Ferrari wel maar toch...

  Ik vind de penalty wel terecht. Omdat Checo bij lange na de A-pex niet haalde terwijl Norris hem ruimte zat gaf, en hij juist door het "band op band" contact met Lando nog met hangen en wurgen de bocht wist te halen.

  Op de onboard van Perez is te zien dat hij halverwege de bocht moet tegensturen en daarna is het contact.
  Wat mij betreft een race incident maar ik heb wel vrede met de toegekende straf. Het is toevallig wat mij betreft een keer consistent

Dit is de enige echte waarheid naar mijn mening: Pérez remt erg laat maar haalt de bocht en aan de buitenzijde is zelfs nog ruimte voor Norris om met de flow mee te bewegen. Norris ziet dat Pérez laat remt en een beetje rechtdoor gaat echter Norris besluit geen gebruik te maken van de overgebleven ruimte aan de buitenzijde en besluit gewoon in te sturen om de band van Pérez vrij onschuldig te kussen. De stewards trappen erin en geven Pérez een penalty ook al had Norris aan de buitenzijde nog voldoende ruimte.

De engelse commentatoren vonden de penalty voor Pérez ook onzin.
