Brundle klapt voor Verstappen: "Blij dat ik dit mocht meemaken"

Max Verstappen sloot zijn derde kampioensjaar afgelopen weekend in stijl af. De Nederlander won met speels gemak de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi en hij bereikte als eerste coureur de mijlpaal van duizend rondjes aan de leiding in één seizoen. Martin Brundle is blij dat hij de dominantie van Verstappen heeft mogen meemaken.

Verstappen verbrak dit jaar record na record. De Nederlander kroonde zich al in Qatar tot wereldkampioen en daarna ging hij verder met zijn recordtocht. Hij pakte dit jaar onder meer het record van de meeste zeges op rij en de meeste zeges in één seizoen. Verstappen ontving veel complimenten van kenners en collega's, maar sommigen fans waren van mening dat de Nederlander de sport saai maakte.

Aan gort gereden

Oud-coureur en huidig Sky Sports-commentator Martin Brundle heeft een compleet andere mening. De Brit stelt in zijn column voor zijn werkgever dat hij onder de indruk is: "Max had dit seizoen natuurlijk de beste auto en het beste team, maar dat geldt ook voor Sergio Perez. Ze hebben het op moeten nemen tegen verschillende sterke teams en coureurs van wereldklasse. Max heeft simpelweg iedereen aan gort gereden."

Omstandigheden

Brundle zag dat Verstappen onder alle omstandigheden domineerde. Volgens de Brit is dat een uitzonderlijke prestatie en hij gaat dan ook verder met het uitdelen van complimenten: "Weer of geen weer, Safety Cars, complete chaos, het maakte niet uit. Max wist altijd te winnen. Het team ondersteunde zijn talent met een soort kogelvrije betrouwbaarheid, goede strategieën en goede pitstops. Ik ben blij dat ik dit heb mogen meemaken."

Nooit durven dromen dat we ooit een Nederlandse Formule1 WK zouden krijgen, laat staan één van de beste coureurs ooit. Nederland stelde tot Max relatief nauwelijks iets voor in de sport, zelfs een overwinning heeft er nooit in gezeten voor een Nederlandse coureur, tot…..
Mooie tijden voor de Nederlandse autosport fans…, op een aantal na dan.;)

  Max en RBR/Honda presteerden buitenaards dit seizoen. Checo is simpelweg nycks meer dan een Zuid-Amerikaanse Mexicaan gebleven, met naast een bull fouten, af en toe een positief uitschietertje zonder ooit maar in de buurt van de dampkring te zijn gekomen.

  Ik snap Ernie wel. Zeer kundig man. Maar ook sterk biased. Ben er wel van overtuigd dat zijn (Brundle) verstand hier spreekt. Niet zijn gevoel.
  
  Ook de laatste race moest Brundle weer indirect uitspreken mbt een negatieve (in zijn ogen Verstappen). Volgens mij zelfs 2 maal.
  1 ben ik vergeten. De andere na de vermeende brake test van Alonso op Hamilton. Refereerde direct naar SA 2021.
  
  Ik dacht ik luister weer eens naar Sky Engeland voor een keer. In het verleden mee gestopt juist om Martin "I wonder if Verstappen was involved" Brundle.
  
  Twee maal bij crashes in het achterveld kwam die meldig. Was tijdens races waar Verstappen in het achterveld startte. Na de herhaling bleek Verstappen niet eens in de buurt van de crashende rijders te hebben gezeten.
  
  Ander voorbeeld.
  Wolff heeft ergens in een interview zich versproken. Was nadat Russell een rijder buiten de baan inhaalde. Wolff vertelde dat het een misrekening was omdat hij gedacht had dat hij wel 5 seconde weg zou kunnen rijden. Echter kon Gasly bij blijven en zo in de uitslag voor Russell eindigen.
  Russell reed nog 2 maal zo een ander voorbij. 1 keer sneed hij zelfs een complete chicane af. De laatste is niet eens onderzocht, terwijl hij vol gas de baan op kam recht op de ideale lijn gericht. Groter voordeel kon niet.
  Ook Hamilton deed het een keer dit seizoen. Netjes 5 seconde pakken maar enorm veel progressie pakken daardoor.
  Het lijkt er op dat er een component 'bewust' bij zat.
  
  Nu doet Verstappen het bij Leclerc per ongeluk. Brundle sprak schande van de agressie. EN men moet maar snel de strafmaat verhogen. Waarom spreekt Brundle daar alleen over bij Verstappen?
  
  Overigens maakte Ernie gewoon een grapje. Maar als er een kern van waarheid in zit dan vind ik een roast erg geslaagd.
  
  De reden dat ik over ging van Sky DUitsland naar Engeland... Ik hoorde op Sky Duitsland 2 maal geluid. 1 maal 'real time' en 1 maal er doorheen een seconde of 2 a 3 vertraagd.
  
  De volgende keer als dat gebeurt ga ik maar het geluid uit zetten.
