Domenicali verwacht spannend 2024: "Ik moet Max feliciteren"

De titelstrijd was afgelopen seizoen allesbehalve spannend in de Formule 1. Max Verstappen was bezig met een ongekend dominant seizoen waarin hij bijna alles won wat er te winnen viel. Stefano Domenicali is trots op de sport en hij verwacht een spannendere strijd in 2024.

Verstappen werd dit jaar voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. De Nederlander won slechts drie Grands Prix niet en hij verbrak record na record. Verstappen deed dat op een zeer machtige manier, maar volgens sommige fans was hij iets té machtig. De strijd om de zege was immers niet zo vaak spannend e een aantal fans en volgers baalden daar van.

Felicitaties

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali was wel tevreden over het afgelopen seizoen. De Italiaan was positief toen hij het seizoen besprak bij Sky Sports: "Ik denk dat het een ongelooflijk seizoen is geweest. Het voelt alsof we een paar dagen geleden zijn gestart in Bahrein. Op sportief gebied moet ik Max feliciteren. Hij zette een geweldig jaar en een geweldige standaard neer met Red Bull. Ik neem ook twee zaken mee. Het eerste is dat het niet klopt dat je met de budgetcap je auto niet kan ontwikkelen, want McLaren heeft het tegendeel bewezen."

Spannender

Domenicali wijst daarnaast naar de kleine verschillen in de kwalificaties. Hij hoopt dat dit ook gaat gebeuren in de races, want dan verwacht hij veel spektakel: "Ik denk dat het spannender gaat worden. Ik ben er zeker van dat de teams het niveau van de engineers en de capaciteiten om te verbeteren willen laten zien. De komende twee seizoenen worden echt cruciaal omdat we daarna de regels veranderen."

Stefano kan eigenlijk niet tevreden zijn over 2023, Duitsland en England zijn toch wat afgehaakt door de dominantie van Max. Ik heb de aantallen niet voorhanden, maar zou het verschil 2021 en 2023 op de weegschaal willen zien.

  Met die eilandapen heb je gelijk want die hebben een bloedhekel aan Max, heb Engelse collega's die sinds 2022 geen F1 meer kijken door Max.

Wat Max ook tegen Stefano heeft gezegd: “Wat circuits betreft: voor mij zijn echte circuits altijd leuker om op te rijden.Mensen kunnen zeggen wat ze willen over stratencircuits. Maar uiteindelijk hoort een Formule 1-wagen daar niet thuis.”
