Perez hekelt overvolle kalender: "Niet zoveel races rijden omdat het kan"

Veel coureurs zijn blij dat het Formule 1-seizoen er op zit. De laatste fase van het seizoen was zeer zwaar dat zorgde voor fysieke problemen. Ook Sergio Perez is kritisch op de overvolle kalender, hij stelt dat het om de kwaliteit van de races moet draaien en niet om het rijden van races omdat het kan.

Het afgelopen seizoen werd afgesloten met een double header in Las Vegas en Abu Dhabi. Daarvoor werd er ook nog een triple header bestaand uit Austin, Mexico en Brazilië verreden. Het was een zware periode voor de coureurs en de teammedewerkers. Dat werd pijnlijk duidelijk toen onder meer Esteban Ocon en George Russell ziek waren in het laatste weekend van het jaar. Ook monteurs worstelden met hun gezondheid.

Zorgen

Meerdere coureurs spraken hun zorgen al uit over het moordende schema. Ook Red Bull Racing-coureur Sergio Perez is in gesprek met RaceFans kritisch: "Het laatste deel van het seizoen was enorm intens met al het gereis. Het aantal races zit zeker op de limiet. Niet alleen voor de coureurs, maar ook voor de monteurs. De kalender moet zeker efficiënter worden en we moeten meer naar elkaar omkijken. Ik maak mij vooral zorgen over een aantal van mijn monteurs."

Waarschuwing

Perez is ook van mening dat er goed moet worden gekeken naar de races zelf. Hij vindt namelijk niet dat elk circuit zomaar een plekje moet krijgen op de kalender. Hij deelt een duidelijke waarschuwing uit: "We moeten ervoor zorgen dat we blijven leveren. We moeten niet heel veel races gaan rijden omdat het kan. Ik denk dat het kwaliteitslevel nog steeds heel belangrijk is in onze sport."

Het moet uiteindelijk verantwoord zijn, als het merendeel van de teams beslissen dat teveel is voor hun mensen dan moet daar naar geluisterd worden, maar heb zelf het idee dat die zeggenschap niks waard is en dat de F1 vooral kijkt naar de omzet van het platform.

Vooral ook het reisschema verantwoordelijker maken met races gegroepeerd per gebied, dat gaat ook de betere kant op volgend jaar

  Ze hebben toch extra vakanties ingepland voor de triple-headers, volgend jaar 2 zomerpauzes en een weekje extra in dat fantastische Las Vegas.
  Na Singapore(22 sep) kan het hele F1-circus voor 2 maanden naar Amerika vertrekken voor de races in Austin(20 okt), Mexico(27 okt), Brazilie(3 nov) en Las Vegas(23 nov), daarna nog even door naar Qatar(1 dec) en Abu Dhabi(8 dec).
