Complimenten voor Verstappen: "Ze weten dat ze hem niet aankunnen"

Max Verstappen en Red Bull Racing waren dit jaar extreem dominant in de Formule 1. De concurrentie kon Verstappen niet bijhouden en de Red Bull-bolide was veel sneller dan de andere auto's. Ook Cyril Abiteboul was onder de indruk, hij stelt dat Red Bull iets unieks heeft gepresenteerd.

Verstappen werd dit jaar voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen in de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Nederlander wist negentien races te winnen en hij verbrak een karrenvracht aan records. Zijn team Red Bull had met de RB19 goud in handen. De wagen leek onverwoestbaar en Red Bull werd slechts één keer verslagen door een andere renstal. Alleen in Singapore wisten ze niet te winnen.

Ferrari

Veel kenners zijn onder de indruk van de prestaties van Red Bull. Ook voormalig Renault-teambaas Cyril Abiteboul is lovend. In gesprek met France-Info vergelijkt hij de prestaties van Red Bull met de dominantie van Ferrari eerder deze eeuw: "Ferrari domineerde in een tijd waarin de Formule 1 veel minder competitief was dan vandaag. Ferrari werkte met een budget en een structuur waar ze bij de andere teams niet aan konden denken. Red Bull is zeker een prestigieus team dat goed is georganiseerd, maar ze zijn niet de enige. Ze domineren in een veld waarin de anderen niet zwak zijn."

Verstappen

Abiteboul wijst vanzelfsprekend ook naar de prestaties van Max Verstappen. De Franse Hyundai-baas is daar nogal duidelijk over: "Er bestaat geen twijfel over dat de auto van Verstappen voor hem is ontworpen. Hij is belangrijk binnen dat team. Heel erg goede coureurs als Alexander Albon en Pierre Gasly waren ook zijn teamgenoten en ze slaagden niet in die auto. Max maakt ook op psychologisch vlak indruk en hij heeft een geweldige auto. Hij haalt makkelijk in omdat de andere coureurs niet eens het gevecht aangaan. Ze weten dat ze hem niet aankunnen."

Heb laatst gelezen dat dit niet zo is. Alleen de afstelling misschien, maar da's een ander verhaal.
