Wolff hekelt sprintplannen: "Soort WWE op zaterdag"

Het is nog steeds onduidelijk hoe de sprintraces er vanaf volgend jaar precies uit gaan zien. Het format zal worden omgegooid, maar niemand weet precies wat er zal gebeuren. Toto Wolff laat op sarcastische wijze weten dat hij een reversed grid wel ziet zitten omdat iedereen dat kan zien hoe stom dat concept is.

Dit jaar werd er gewerkt met een concept waarbij de sprint meer los stond van de rest van het weekend. Op de zaterdag werd er eerst een Sprint Shootout afgewerkt en aan de hand daarvan werd de startopstelling voor de sprintrace bepaald. De uitslag van de sprintrace had vervolgens geen impact meer op de Grand Prix. Dit format wordt voor volgend jaar weer aangepast en er is een kans dat er een reversed grid wordt ingevoerd.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is daar in ieder geval geen fan van. De Oostenrijker reageert op een sarcastische wijze op dit plan in gesprek met de internationale media: "Ik kan mij wel vinden in races met een omgekeerde startopstelling. Laten we dit doen! Dan wordt duidelijk hoe stom het concept is. Ja, we doen zes keer per jaar iets stoms wat helemaal niemand leuk vindt. Dan krijg je een evenement met andere winnaars en verfrissende podiums. We doen dan een soort WWE op zaterdag en de Formule 1 op zondag."

      Hij heeft helemaal gelijk, doe het dan maar een paar keer waarna je zal zien dat sommige van de topcoureurs door schade bij die reverse grid start op de zondag niet mee kunnen strijden om het podium wat anders wel had gekund.

      Ik ken werkelijk niemand die de sprint race iets toe vond voegen en met een reverse grid wordt het nog slechter

    Kom maar op met die reversed grid, lijkt me best leuk om te zien als sprintrace. Daarnaast heeft het als voordeel dat de mindere teams ook iets hebben om voor te strijden en de sterke teams strategische keuzes moeten maken hoeveel risico's ze willen nemen voor de punten. Daarnaast word niet direct verraden hoe de race op zondag zal gaan.

    Het is natuurlijk nog even afwachten, maar misschien pakt zo'n reversed grid uiteindelijk juist heel erg goed uit voor de W15.....

    Die sprintraces is niets en zal ook nooit iets worden voor de F1, wat ze er ook aan gaan veranderen.

    Sprintraces is gewoon exit, alleen weten die prutsers het zelf nog niet.
