Hype rondom titelkansen Perez motiveerde Verstappen

Max Verstappen werd dit jaar met speels gemak wereldkampioen in de Formule 1. Het leek er heel eventjes op dat Sergio Perez mee kon gaan vechten om de titel, maar Verstappens Red Bull-teamgenoot viel al snel terug. Verstappen zelf haalde motivatie uit de kortstondige hype rondom Perez.

Perez won in de openingsfase van het seizoen in Saoedi-Arabië en Azerbeidzjan. Na zijn zege in Bakoe leek het er eventjes op dat hij mee kon gaan vechten om de wereldtitel. Perez werd opgehemeld in de internationale media en kenners vroegen zich af of de Mexicaan echt kon gaan meevechten om de eindzege. Perez zakte echter al snel door het ijs, zijn crash in de kwalificatie in Monaco luidde een teleurstellende reeks in.

Verstappen zag de hype rondom Perez ook ontstaan. Na de zege van Perez in Bakoe domineerde hij het nieuws en werd de Mexicaan hoog ingeschat. Aan Viaplay laat Verstappen nu weten wat dit met hem deed: "Dat maakte mij alleen maar nog meer gemotiveerd om te laten zien dat het niet zo is. Het is niet dat ik er bang van word. De media hypen dat gewoon op omdat ze hopen op een titelgevecht. Ik maakte mij echt geen zorgen, ik moest gewoon wat details aan elkaar knopen."

    Nadat Max maandag uit Japan is terug gekomen was gisteren de volgende sponsor verplichting aan de beurt.
    Hij was aanwezig bij de Heineken 0,0 finals (simracing) in Amsterdam.
    Morgen is vervolgens het grote FIA Gala in Baku.

Underscoring that the best drivers are those who choose not to drink. In a gripping 14-lap battle at the sim racing Zandvoort circuit, the amateurs' razor-thin victory margin electrified the audience, highlighting the campaign's competitive spirit.

    The global showdown featured fierce competitors; being the local winners from tournaments held in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and the Netherlands, all culminating in a tense finale against Verstappen.
