Verstappen verraste zichzelf niet met recordprestaties

Max Verstappen maakte dit jaar veel indruk in de Formule 1. De Red Bull Racing-coureur verbaasde de wereld met zijn recordtocht. Hij werd voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen en hij zorgde voor veel vreugde bij zijn fans en zijn team. Hij stond echter niet versteld van zijn eigen prestaties.

Verstappen werd vooraf het seizoen wel gezien als de titelfavoriet, maar niemand had verwacht dat hij zo goed zou presteren. Hij verbrak een aantal stokoude records en hij scherpte een aantal van zijn eigen records aan. Aan het einde van de rit had hij negentien zeges op zijn naam staan en had hij het hoogste winstpercentage in één jaar gepakt. Kenners wisten niet wat ze zagen, maar Verstappen bleef ijzig kalm.

De Red Bull Racing-coureur stelt dan ook niet dat hij zichzelf blijft verbazing. Verstappen wordt in gesprek met De Telegraaf gevraagd of hij soms nog versteld staat van zichzelf. Hij reageert ontkennend: "Nee, dat niet. Er zijn eigenlijk nooit momenten dat ik mijzelf verbaas. Natuurlijk denk ik ook wel eens van: dit was heel erg goed of dit was heel erg slecht. Maar ik heb nooit zoiets van 'wauw!' Ook niet als het heel slecht gaat bijvoorbeeld. Dan ik ik het heel snel relativeren en besef ik mij dat ik er dingen van kan leren."

Teams hebben nl de mogelijkheid om een zgn 'Demonstration Event'
te organiseren voor auto's van het lopende jaar, maar deze mogen
niet langer zijn dan 15 km.

Voordat de RB19 definitief in de fabriek wordt tentoongesteld had David Coulthard
nog een wens. Een paar rondjes in de RB19 rijden.
Dat mocht als hij de reactie test met Lambiase goed volbracht. Zo gezegd, zo gedaan.
Op naar Silverstone. Hij was dol enthousiast.
