Grote complimenten voor Horner: "Max is een lucky boy"

Red Bull Racing was dit jaar oppermachtig in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal heerste en met Max Verstappen verbraken ze veel records. Ze ontvangen veel complimenten, ook Sir Jackie Stewart is onder de indruk. De Schot wijst vooral naar teambaas Christian Horner.

Horner is al sinds het begin betrokken bij het team van Red Bull. De Brit heeft de touwtjes stevig in handen en hij is niet bang om zijn mening te delen. Dit jaar mocht hij bijna elk weekend juichen, zijn team wist immers slechts één Grand Prix niet te winnen. De constructeurstitel was in Japan al een feit en Max Verstappen prolongeerde zijn wereldtitel al tijdens de sprintrace op het Qatarese circuit van Losail.

Horner

Ook autosportlegende Sir Jackie Stewart is onder de indruk van de resultaten van Red Bull. De drievoudig wereldkampioen deelt zijn complimenten met PlanetF1: "Het was een geweldig jaar. Het is opmerkelijk wat Red Bull heeft gedaan. Ze staan onder leiding van een heel erg goede man. Goed management is heel erg belangrijk en hij is de beste van het moment. Christian heeft geweldig werk geleverd voor een enorm goede coureur. Het is dus een combinatie die lastig te verslaan is."

Newey

Stewart ziet echter nog veel meer belangrijke namen binnen het team van Red Bull. Hij wijst bijvoorbeeld ook naar ontwerper Adrian Newey en naar Max Verstappen: "Newey is één van de beste ontwerpers die ooit geleefd heeft. Het team wordt goed geleid en ze hebben de coureurs goed uitgekozen. Verstappen heeft geweldig werk geleverd en hij had niet meer kunnen doen, dat is best opvallend. Dat komt ook doordat hij een geweldig team heeft. Die jongen heeft amper pech gehad dus hij is een lucky boy, Red Bull heeft ook geluk met hem. Ik denk dat het geweldig is en ze verdienen het."

Een coureur heeft altijd geluk als je een ruimteschip krijgt. Zo wordt je dan ook de beste ooit tot de volgende een ruimteschip krijgt.

  @deornajecamping; zelfs deze totaal anders bedoelde opmerking van Sir Stewart weet je weer te draaien naar je niet fantasie stokpaardje; het ligt allemaal niet aan Verstappen, maar alleen aan de auto hé?
  Stewart bedoelt dat Verstappen niet veel mechanische pech heeft gehad, geen rare DNF's. Daar moet elke coureur wat mazzel mee hebben, maar mazzel dwing je ook af als je een rijstijl hebt die het materiaal niet teveel op de proef stelt. En jij wilt het niet horen of zien, maar kijk maar eens terug naar de verschillen tussen Verstappen enerzijds en zowat de rest van het veld anderzijds bij het aansnijden van kerbs. Als je het dan nog niet snapt ben je een hopeloos geval.
