Wolff wil extra showelementen een kans geven

In het afgelopen seizoen werd er flink geëxperimenteerd met allerlei zaken in de Formule 1. Er werd een nieuw sprintformat uitgeprobeerd en in Las Vegas waren er enorm veel showelementen aanwezig. Niet iedereen is hier een fan van, maar Toto Wolff is van mening dat er wel naar moet worden gekeken.

Er was afgelopen jaar veel kritiek op de testballontjes van de Formule 1. Vooral Max Verstappen was nogal fel als het aankwam op dit onderwerp. De Nederlandse wereldkampioen was extreem kritisch op het nieuwe sprintformat en ook de show in Las Vegas kon hem niet bekoren. Verstappen hekelde de showelementen en hij greep elk moment aan om de gehele situatie af te kraken.

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff kijkt iets anders naar deze situatie. De Oostenrijker is van mening dat men wel open moet staan voor proefballonnen. Bij Bloomberg spreekt hij zich uit: "Gaan we te ver voor de sport, hebben we teveel entertainment? Nee, dat denk ik niet. We proberen verschillende sprintformats uit en in Las Vegas reden we in de nacht. Als we dingen moeten aanpassen voor een betere show, maar wel trouw blijven aan de waarden van onze sport, dan moeten we het proberen. De Grand Prix op zondag moet het kernpunt blijven, daar draait de Formule 1 altijd om."
