Wolff vindt Mercedes en Ferrari allebei 'losers'

Red Bull Racing was dit jaar oppermachtig in de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal won slechts één Grand Prix niet en ze hadden een grote voorsprong op de rest van het veld. Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff is van mening dat zijn team en het team van Ferrari allebei hebben verloren.

Ferrari en Mercedes hoopten dit jaar allebei toe te kunnen slaan in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Ze sloten 2022 af met een flinke achterstand op Red Bull en dat gat wilden ze dichten. Het plannetje mislukte, de achterstand op Red Bull was immers groter geworden. Ferrari wist in Singapore nog wel te winnen met Carlos Sainz, maar ze werden toch slechts derde in het constructeurskampioenschap. In de laatste race verloren ze immers een rechtstreeks duel van Mercedes.

Mercedes werd dus tweede in het kampioenschap, maar teambaas Toto Wolff was hier niet tevreden mee. Wolff werd door de internationale media gevraagd of hij liever tweede was geworden zonder zege of derde met één zege. De Oostenrijker is duidelijk: "In beide gevallen ben je een loser. Voor het geld en de bonussen is het beter om tweede te worden en voor de windtunneltijd is het beter om derde te worden. Ferrari kan zeven procent meer tijd gaan gebruiken dan wij en we hadden veertien procent meer gehad als we derde waren geworden. Je krijgt niet altijd wat je wil. Het liefst heb je geld en windtunneltijd."

Toto heeft hierin gelijk.
De achterstand op Honda/ Redbull/ Max is te groot ondanks dat de Mercedes en de Ferrari niet slecht waren.

Volgend jaar nieuwe kansen zeg maar.
