Glock waarschuwt Formule 1: "In Abu Dhabi was iedereen ziek"

De Formule 1-kalender was dit jaar overvol. De coureurs en teammedewerkers vlogen de hele wereld over om te kunnen racen. Het zorgde voor veel kritiek, want het was fysiek bijna niet te doen. Volgens Timo Glock was vrijwel iedereen ziek tijdens de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi.

Er werden dit jaar 22 Grand Prix-weekenden verreden. Tijdens een aantal van deze raceweekenden werden er ook nog eens sprintraces verreden. Het zorgde voor een enorme werkdruk bij de coureurs en de teams, ook de vormgeving van de kalender was bijzonder. Het seizoen werd namelijk afgesloten met een double header bestaand uit Las Vegas en Abu Dhabi. Dat zorgde voor veel fysieke problemen.

Volgend jaar staan er nog meer races op de planning. Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Timo Glock vindt dat er ingegrepen moet worden. Bij BettingSites geeft hij aan wat hij aantrof in Abu Dhabi: "De limiet moet echt op 20 of 21 races liggen. Vergeet niet dat er voor het seizoen ook nog een test in Bahrein is. Voor de monteurs is dat slopend. Ik heb in Abu Dhabi niemand gezien die niet ziek was. Na de problemen op de vrijdag in Las Vegas werd het weekend erg lang. Iedereen vloog van het koude Vegas naar Abu Dhabi, waar het dertig graden was."

    Voor de crew moet het slopend zijn die 3 weken na elkaar op het eind van de kalender en dan nog met grote tijds- en temperatuurverschillen.

    Iedereen en nog in het bijzonder de F1 organisatie zelf kijkt enkel naar de piloten en teammanagers waarbij de achterban die het
    ´vuile´ werk moeten verrichten (weg van de media) gewoon worden vergeten. Teammanagers zijn erg gedreven door centen en trekken daarom die elastiek tot zijn maximale capaciteit.

      Maar door verschillende coureurs en teambazen wordt dan wel weer aan die 'achterban' gedacht.
      Heb al van twee teambazen gelezen die serieus nadenken over deels roterende crew zodat de 'achterban' drie of vier GP's kan overslaan...

      Eén van die twee teambazen is trouwens Vasseur, de tweede zit niet meer in mijn actieve herinnering.

      Beste oplossing is m.i. twintig GP's en de vermaledijde sprintraces schrappen. Veel F1-volgers zullen dat ook kunnen waarderen...

      Of het aantal races het probleem is weet ik niet (van mij mag het best minder). Maar begin met een logisch kalender waarbij de route logisch is van de ene naar de andere race. Zodat er tussendoor meer vrije ruimte is en je ook qua tijdzones het wat minder belastend maakt. Als er dan meerdere gp's vlak achter mekaar in een zelfde regio zitten is dan maar.jammer (zoals bv Spa en Zandvoort of die in de USA en die in in met MO.

      Willen die GP's dat niet, dan geen GP daar dat jaar.

      Die crew doet dat werk grotendeels 's nachts, toch ?

      Verder waren het maar een paar coureurs met fysieke klachten, en een paar met praktische problemen.

      Ik vind dat ze niet zo moeilijk moeten doen. Doe die race een beetje buiten het hete seizoen.

      Was dit niet allang geconcludeerd ?

      Al gelezen ja maar volgens mij gemakkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. De pitcrew die aanwezig zijn op het circuit zijn wel toppertjes in hun vak. Mogelijk start Vasseur wel eens met de strategiemannen te roteren 😉
