Bottas wil in 2024 deelnemen aan nog een kampioenschap

Het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen wordt zwaar voor de teams en de coureurs. Er staat een recordaantal raceweekenden op het programma en er wordt een enorme werkdruk verwacht. Toch heeft Valtteri Bottas het plan om te gaan deelnemen aan nog een wereldkampioenschap.

Het is geen geheim dat Bottas dol is op wielrennen. De Finse Alfa Romeo-coureur verschijnt regelmatig in zijn wielrenoutfit in de paddock en in zijn vrije tijd zit hij meer op de fiets dan in de auto. De vriendin van Bottas is een professionele wielrenster en samen rijden ze overal en nergens heen op de fiets. Bottas is vooral dol op het gravelen en daar wil hij ook veel meters in gaan maken.

Het is zijn doel om in 2023 deel te nemen aan het WK gravelen. Dit kampioenschap wordt in oktober gehouden in België. Bottas heeft kansen genoeg om zich hiervoor te kwalificeren. In januari gaat hij voor zijn kans in Adelaide, ze stelt hij in de podcast 'Bobby & Jens': "Ik ga met Kerst wel naar Australië, dus het werkt perfect. Ik neem de races heel serieus en ik zal altijd proberen om mijzelf uit te dagen en ik wil er het beste van maken. Of het nu gaat om een tactisch resultaat of over gemiddelde snelheid, ik wil er vol voor gaan. Ik vind het niet erg mijzelf pijn te doen, dat vind ik wel leuk."
