Horner verwacht successen van 2023 niet te kunnen herhalen

Het team van Red Bull Racing kende dit jaar één van de dominantste seizoenen uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1. De Oostenrijkse renstal won bijna alle races en met Max Verstappen werden ze wereldkampioen. Christian Horner denkt dat het onmogelijk is om dit ooit nog te herhalen.

Max Verstappen won dit jaar een recordaantal van negentien Grands Prix. De Nederlander was in vorm en hij werd voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen. Hij profiteerde ook van de kracht van zijn team Red Bull, de RB19 was veel sneller dan de rest van het veld. Verstappens teamgenoot Sergio Perez won ook twee races, slechts eenmaal ging de zege naar een ander team. In Singapore ging de zege immers naar Carlos Sainz.

Buitengewoon

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner is apetrots. Hij kan niet anders dan toegeven dat het geweldig ging dit jaar. Bij Speedcafe spreekt Horner zich uit: "Het was een buitengewoon seizoen voor ons. Niemand had ooit verwacht dat we zo'n seizoen zouden draaien. We hebben 21 van de 22 races gewonnen, we hebben vijf van de zes sprints gewonnen, we hebben beide titels verdedigd en we hebben nog veel meer records gebroken. Sommige van die records komen uit 1988, het laat zien dat het team op een fenomenaal niveau heeft gepresteerd."

Combinatie

Horner is trots op alle werknemers van Red Bull. De Britse teambaas moet wel concluderen dat het haast onmogelijk is om een soortgelijke prestatie neer te zetten: "Het ligt niet alleen aan het design van de auto, het gaat om de productie en de ondersteunende functies. Het gaat om alle afdelingen die alle uitdagingen op alle circuits tijdens alle omstandigheden aangaan. Onze partner Honda heeft ook een geweldig product geleverd. Het is een combinatie van al die aspecten die samen hebben gezorgd voor een performance waarvan ik mij afvraag of we dit ooit weer kunnen bereiken."

Honda wordt toch vaak niet benoemd, geweldige motor hebben die ontwikkeld.

  In Deventer mag van mij de bull wel helemaal onderlopen, dat is voor mij geen enkel probleem als rasechte Swollenear. Dat is imo zelfs vergelijkbaar met de superspannende laatste ronde van het 2021 F1 seizoen, bijna dan ;)

  Ook ik vind dat best jammer, in 2021 werd Honda geroemd en nu nauwelijks meer.
  Waar hadden ze geweest zonder ze? Geketend aan Renault met een verschrikkelijke verstandhouding.

  Koppie@ ik ben het zeker met je eens... en denk dat het vooral heeft te maken dat Honda publiekelijk afstand heeft genomen?
  
  En de TV beelden helpen ook niet mee. Zo zie ik nooit meer de camera gericht naar een Honda chef in de pitbox (of zijn die niet meer aanwezig?)
  
  Misschien heeft t ook wel wat van doen met politieke dingen... zoals dat RBPT nu officieel de fabrikant is... en andere merken dan gaan klagen "zie je wel, Honda stopt nog elk jaar miljoenen in dat project als een soort stille vennoot"
