Racelegende denkt dat Ricciardo geen kans maakt op Red Bull-zitje

Daniel Ricciardo staat ook dit jaar gewoon weer op de grid. De Australiër blijft rijden voor het team dat nu nog luistert naar de naam AlphaTauri. Hij wordt regelmatig in verband gebracht met een zitje bij Red Bull Racing, maar volgens Alan Jones gaat dat niet meer gebeuren.

Ricciardo keerde vorig jaar terug in de Formule 1. Na een halfjaar kreeg hij een zitje bij AlphaTauri omdat Nyck de Vries vanwege tegenvallende resultaten was ontslagen. Ricciardo's prestaties vielen daarna redelijk tegen, maar hij kreeg wel een nieuw contract. Daarnaast wordt hij veelvuldig in verband gebracht met het Red Bull-zitje van Sergio Perez. Het contract van de Mexicaan loopt immers eind dit jaar af.

Of Ricciardo echt kan gaan denken aan een overstap naar Red Bull, hangt volledig van zijn prestaties af. Zijn landgenoot Alan Jones denkt dat Ricciardo geen kans maakt. De wereldkampioen van 1980 is kritisch bij Wide World of Sports: "Ik denk dat hij op dit gebied geen kans meer maakt. Sergio heeft nog een heel jaar voor zich en er is altijd wel een opkomende ster die de kans krijgt. Ik geloof er eerlijk gezegd echt in dat Daniels kans om terug te keren bij Red Bull al ver achter zich ligt."

Er staat mij bij dat hij ergens in de jaren 70 totaal onverwacht een race won, zo onverwacht dat ze niet de bladmuziek van het Australisch volkslied bij de hand hadden en er voor hem Happy Birthday gespeeld werd terwijl hij echt niet jarig was. :)

      Echt wel een legende, werd kampioen in het jaar dat ik F1 ging volgen, had als de Williams in 79 wat betrouwbaarder was ook toen met gemak kampioen geworden. Waren andere tijden toen, zeker 1 van mijn F1 helden.
