Haas denkt weer aan contracteren rookies

Het team van Haas maakte vorig jaar de keuze om geen zitje te geven aan een rookie. De Amerikaanse renstal koos voor de diensten van de ervaren Nico Hülkenberg. Teambaas Günther Steiner kijkt naar de toekomst en hij zet nu de deur om een kiertje voor jonge coureurs.

Haas gaf in 2021 twee rookies de kans. Men contracteerde toen de aan Ferrari verbonden Mick Schumacher en de financieel gesteunde Nikita Mazepin. Twee jaar later waren beide coureurs verdwenen uit de Formule 1, daarnaast maakten ze allebei ook veel brokken. Teambaas Steiner had daar geen zin meer in en hij koos voor de ervaring van Hülkenberg en Kevin Magnussen. Beide coureurs kregen een nieuw contract.

Niet ideaal

Steiner zet nu de deur weer open voor mogelijke rookies. De Italiaanse teambaas stelt namelijk dat dit wel moet gaan gebeuren in de toekomst. Bij Motorsport Magazin wijst hij naar coureurs die binnenkort met pensioen zullen gaan: "Op een gegeven moment zullen we wel moeten gaan kiezen voor een rookie. Je moet dat dan gaan afwegen. Het is zeker geen ideale situatie, maar je moet kijken naar de voor- en nadelen. Je komt op een punt dat je geen andere keus hebt en dat je de beste beslissing moet gaan maken."

Bearman

Een jonge coureur die in aanmerking kan komen voor een zitje bij Haas is Oliver Bearman. De Britse coureur wordt gesteund door Ferrari en in 2023 reed hij al twee vrije trainingen voor Haas. Steiner is lovend: "Hij deed het heel erg goed en hij bleef heel erg kalm. Voor een achttienjarige gedroeg hij zich heel volwassen en hij liet ook een goede performance zien in de auto. Hij heeft veel vertrouwen, maar niet te veel. Dat is echt een heel dunne lijn."

Doen! Alleen als Hulk echt naar Sauber Stake gaat dan hebben ze eigenlijk een Magnussen nodig. Of ze moeten kunnen ruilen met Bottas.

2 rookies in een is te veel voor Steiner.

  Als de contracten worden besproken willen ze rookies . . . als de kosten baten analyse wordt erbij genomen willen ze ervaren piloten . . .
