Newey ziet Verstappen als een absolute grootheid

Adrian Newey speelt nog steeds een belangrijke rol binnen het team van Red Bull Racing. De Britse ontwerper stond ook in 2023 aan de wieg van de successen van Max Verstappen. Newey geniet van zijn werkzaamheden en hij ziet vooral dat Verstappen een echte topcoureur is.

Newey heeft in zijn lange loopbaan al met veel topcoureurs gewerkt. De Brit was verantwoordelijk voor veel wereldtitels, ook voor alle titels van Red Bull. Hij werkt alweer geruime tijd voor de Oostenrijkse renstal en hij heeft al meerdere keren aangegeven dat hij niet zo snel wil vertrekken bij het team. Hij geniet vooral van de acties van Max Verstappen, de Nederlander werd in de afgelopen drie jaar wereldkampioen.

Newey ziet dat Verstappen beschikt over een aantal sterke eigenschappen. De Britse ontwerper legt zijn mening uit aan Autosport: "Hij kan een race volledig lezen. Ik denk dat dit iets is wat hij min of meer al had toen hij voor het eerst de Formule 1 in kwam, maar dat heeft hij nu echt op een hoog niveau weten te ontwikkelen. Hij heeft de capaciteit om de auto extreem snel te besturen, maar toch constant reserve te hebben, dat is iets wat Max heel duidelijk heeft. Ik zou zeggen dat alle grootheden waarmee ik heb samengewerkt, hetzelfde zijn geweest."

      Max had idd ook een schijthekel aan dat ding, als ik me niet vergis, maar volgens mij was dit gewoon een onderdeel van het 'charme offensief' richting de Mexicanen. Rond die periode waren de gemoederen in de (social) media nogal verhit, zeker ook na de uitspraken van Marko, dus ik denk dat Max dit korte 'show moment' voor lief nam. Gelukkig voor hem hadden sommige Mexicanen op dat moment trouwens al een ander 'doelwit' op het oog in de vorm van Charles ;-)

      Ik zeg evolutietheorie. De extremiteiten wisten te overleven. Door die eventuele eigenschap (het is geen afwijking in de context zoals jij het noemt) dat niet aanwezig is bij de meerderheid

      Ik ben er van overtuigd dat racers gebroed kunnen worden. En ik heb ooit een boek gelezen waar werd uitgelekt dat geluk gefokt kan worden. Zo van broed een mannelijke staatsloterijwinnaar met een vrouwelijke staatsloterijwinnaar. En de kinderen zullen het geluk erven. Niet dat ik het geloof, maar grappig gevonden vond ik het wel. De schrijver er van was Larry Niven.
