FIA-president vindt frictie met Formule 1 'gezond'

Autosportfederatie FIA ontving in het afgelopen jaar veel kritiek. Een aantal beslissingen werden niet door iedereen gewaardeerd. FIA-president Mohammed Ben Sulayem lag soms in de clinch met een aantal kopstukken van de Formule 1. Volgens hem is onderlinge onenigheid juist goed.

De FIA en de FOM stonden in de afgelopen maanden soms recht tegenover elkaar. Ben Sulayem opende de deur voor mogelijke nieuwe Formule 1-teams, terwijl Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali meerdere keren liet weten dat hij hier niet op zit te wachten. Toen er in december een kortstondig onderzoek werd geopend naar Toto en Susie Wolff door de FIA, reageerde de Formule 1 woest.

Ben Sulayem weet dat er onderling soms wat onenigheid is tussen de twee partijen. De FIA-president vindt dit echter een positief punt. In gesprek met Motorsport Magazin legt Ben Sulayem zijn mening uit: "Ik ben niet betrokken bij de aandelenprijzen of de verkoop van de tickets. We hebben eerlijkheid nodig, dat is mijn missie. Wij willen duidelijkheid tussen ons en de FOM en Liberty Media. Je moet begrijpen wie ik vertegenwoordig, ik ben de baas van deze organisatie. We leveren geen services. Ik blijf dat zeggen en dat geloof ik. Frictie is soms gezond om tot het beste te komen."
