Horner vertrouwt Verstappen: "Durf ik mijn huis op in te zetten"

Max Verstappen maakte afgelopen jaar enorm veel indruk in de Formule 1. De Nederlandse Red Bull Racing-coureur werd voor het derde jaar op rij wereldkampioen en hij won een recordaantal van negentien Grands Prix. Teambaas Christian Horner ziet Verstappen altijd tot het gaatje gaan, hij durft daar zelfs zijn huis op in te zetten.

Verstappen zit er altijd direct bovenop bij het begin van een raceweekend. De Red Bull-coureur is meestal al direct de snelste in zijn eerste vliegende ronde in de eerste vrije training. Verstappen doet niet vaak rustig aan en hij slaat vaak al vroeg een gat met zijn concurrenten. Bij zijn team Red Bull zijn ze enorm tevreden met zijn vriendelijke en open gedrag, zijn feedback is ook zeer bruikbaar.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner is zeer in zijn sas met Verstappen. De Brit geniet van het feit dat Verstappen er direct goed voor gaat zitten. In de podcast 'Secrets of Success' legt Horner het uit: "Zodra we beginnen aan een raceweekend dan is Max in de eerste ronde, die eigenlijk op alle vlakken betekenisloos is, direct de snelste. Vaak is hij dan twee of drie seconden sneller dan de rest. Daar durf ik mijn huis op in te zetten. Voor hem is dat een manier om te laten zien dat hij op de toppen van zijn kunnen presteert en dat hij de autoriteit is. Dat hij een is met zijn auto."

      Vriendje George heb ik een tijdje van gedacht dat hij op mannen viel. Hij had wat te veel vrouwelijks over zich om op meisjes te vallen. (Disclaimer: Mij maakt het echt niet uit wat de geaardheid is van enig persoon.)
      Denk dat Ouw safe zit wat dat betreft. George heeft mooie meisjes om zich heen verzameld in de loop van zijn race carrière. Bij George wordt niets opgezet. Of hij moet het zelf doen.

    Helemaal goed hoor, maar waarom hij dit zo op deze manier wil zeggen is toch wel onduidelijk. Niemand twijfelt inmiddels nog aan de oprechtheid waarmee Verstappen zijn seizoen aanvangt. Hij wil winnen of anders kapt hij er wel mee.
    Dus wie heeft dit bij Horner toch in twijfel getrokken ? Het zal wel komen van een jaloerse concurrent, of ander Mvr Spice dit d'r man meer thuis wil ofzo.

    De Nederlander van Red Bull Racing is in Mexico al meermalen verweten geen respect te hebben voor Perez, de trots van Mexico. Met name Esto, het populairste sportmedium van het land, heeft hier een handje van.

    Het is ook Esto dat weer eens hard uithaalt naar Verstappen, ditmaal vanwege een interview dat de drievoudig wereldkampioen in de Formule 1 kortgeleden gaf aan Motorsport Aktuell. In dat bewuste verhaal wordt Verstappen gevraagd zijn ideale F1-team samen te stellen. Allereerst kiest de Nederlander voor zichzelf als één van de rijders. Als tweede man zou Verstappen Lando Norris (McLaren) aanstellen, zo vertelt Verstappen.

    De ESTO site heeft een uitgebreid artikel gewijd aan het interview met de Duitsers.
    “Max Verstappen kleineert Checo Perez en vraagt om Lando Norris bij Red Bull”,
    is de (onjuiste) interpretatie van de woorden van Verstappen.
    “In plaats van tevreden te zijn over wat Perez heeft gepresteerd, eist Max Verstappen dat Lando Norris als partner komt. Mad Max werd door Sergio Perez in de Grands Prix van Saoedi-Arabië en Azerbeidzjan gepasseerd en blijkbaar kan de verloren zoon van Red Bull niet omgaan met zulke tegenslagen in gevecht met zijn buurman.”

    Max wordt daar altijd Mad Max genoemd.
