Berger ziet Verstappen als topfavoriet voor 2024-titel

Max Verstappen begint over anderhalve maand als titelverdediger aan het nieuwe seizoen. De Nederlander kan dit jaar voor de vierde keer wereldkampioen worden in de Formule 1. Gerhard Berger is van mening dat de situatie bij Red Bull Racing stabiel is en dat Verstappen daarom geldt als de titelfavoriet.

Verstappen kende in 2023 een enorm dominant seizoen in de Formule 1. Hij werd met gemak voor het derde seizoen op rij wereldkampioen en hij verbrak een grote hoeveelheid aan records. Verstappen ontving veel complimenten, maar zijn concurrenten maken zich zorgen. Ze vrezen namelijk dat Verstappen ook komend seizoen onverslaanbaar is, de regels zijn immers amper veranderd.

Favoriet

Ook oud-coureur Gerhard Berger deelt die mening. De Oostenrijker loofde Verstappen in het verleden en ook nu is hij complimenteus. In gesprek met La Gazzetta dello Sport spreekt Berger zich uit over het aanstaande seizoen: "De combinatie van Verstappen en Red Bull is zeer sterk. Het team is stabiel, iedereen binnen die ploeg heeft veel vertrouwen en de regels zijn niet aangepast. Je hebt dus genoeg redenen om Max te zien als de favoriet voor de wereldtitel."

Volwassen

Berger is over het algemeen enorm onder de indruk van de prestaties van Verstappen. De Oostenrijker is goudeerlijk en hij stelt dat Verstappen precies weet waar hij mee bezig is: "Hij is enorm ervaren en hij gedraagt zich ook heel erg volwassen, al is hij nog wel best jong. Hij weet precies hoe hij moet omgaan met alle situaties op en naast de baan. Het maakt niet uit of dat gaat over strategie, politiek of de omgang met de media. Hij is enorm benaderbaar en daarom vind ik hem zo aardig."

Mogelijk vele F1-gridstraffen op komst na regelwijziging door de FIA.
Elke auto op de grid mag komend jaar namelijk slechts drie exemplaren van de verschillende motoronderdelen inzetten. De verbrandingsmotor, MGU-H en MGU-K en de turbo mogen dus slechts twee keer worden vervangen.
Met 24 Grands Prix en zes sprintraces. Mogelijk zullen de teams hun motoren het komende jaar minder gaan belasten. Voor de coureur én voor de fans is dit een klap in het gezicht.

  Dacht dat de MGU spullenboel in 2023 al op max 2 stond. Kan me herinneren dat Leclerc een straf kreeg al in het begin van het seizoen.

  Overigens lijkt mij dit een voordeel voor de meest betrouwbare motor. Alleen zou ik niet weten welke motor het betrouwbaarst is.

  @Snailer, van al die componenten mochten ze in 2023 vier stuks gebruiken,
  nu nog maar drie.
  Van de ES en CE mochten en mogen ze er twee gebruiken.
