Horner legt druk bij Perez: "Hij moet zich gaan bewijzen"

Het team van Red Bull Racing geldt ook voor aankomend seizoen als de topfavoriet voor de wereldtitel. Alle ogen zijn gericht op wereldkampioen Max Verstappen, want zijn teamgenoot Sergio Perez wordt niet gezien als de kopman. Teambaas Christian Horner stelt wel dat Perez zijn stoeltje mag gaan verdedigen.

Het contract van de Mexicaan loopt eind dit jaar af. Er is veel te doen omtrent het stoeltje van Perez, want er liggen meerdere kapers op de kust. Naast Perez heeft Red Bull immers ook Daniel Ricciardo, Yuki Tsunoda en Liam Lawson onder contract staan. Aangezien het de verwachting is dat Red Bull ook in 2025 snel zal zijn, azen er nog veel meer coureurs op het stoeltje van Perez. Hij staat dus onder grote druk.

Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner laat echter weten dat Perez vooralsnog de voorkeur krijgt boven de andere mogelijke coureurs. Horner legt in gesprek met PlanetF1 uit wat Perez moet gaan doen in de komende maanden: "Het is het zitje van Checo. Hij ziet in die auto omdat wij denken dat hij op dit moment de juiste coureur is. Het is aan hem om er in de komende negen maanden voor te zorgen dat we ook zo over hem denken voor 2025. We hebben geweldige talenten in onze pool met Daniel, Yuki en Liam. De tijd zal het dus gaan vertellen."

    Ik denk dat Daniel na een paar races in de RB stapt en Liam in de AT en dat Liam al meer weet.

      Zou best wel eens kunnen.

      ... Strategie "druk leggen op Perez" ligt volledig in lijn met de titel "Horner baalt van interne duels" en idem als Ricciardo instapt bij RB een paar races erna. Liam wil ik gelijk meer zien doen in die AT leerschool. Als Perez verdwijnt is het voor beide teams.

Hij heeft ieder jaar een paar races waarin hij erg goed is, een paar races waarin hij erg slecht is... en alles daartussenin is "redelijk". Dat was in 2011 zo, dat was in 2015 zo, dat was in 2022 zo en dat gaat natuurlijk in 2024 weer zo zijn. Perez is in 2024 natuurlijk niet opeens een andere coureur.

      Ik denk zo dat Perez wel degelijk iets moet bewijzen. Namelijk dat hij kan Vechten met andere topteams en hun rijders. Dat is namelijk de issue geweest veel van de races. Perez kon het om verschillende redenen. Hij moet minstens Verstappen kunnen helpen is de strijd om de overwinningen. Dan bewijst hij voldoende om verlenging.

      Perez was 2023 in vergelijk met max niet goed genoeg in die auto. Ben met je eens dat hij wel goed genoeg kan zijn maar dan moet hij wel stuk beter presteren als vorig seizoen

      Als een auto oppermachtig is en Perez rijd/kwalificeert zich telkens slechter dan p6 dan doe je iets verkeerd. Tel daarbij op dat inhalen ook niet altijd best is en je puntenverlies is groot.
      Perez zal intern een ultimatum hebben gekregen, bij hem bekend of niet, en ricciardo en lawson staan te springen

    Nou, als je het na 10+ nog niet weet dan weet ik het ook niet meer. Een goede manager weet meestal na een kwartiertje of hooguit binnen een werkdag al of de werknemer het kan.

    Zowel Horner als Marko hebben aangegeven dat zij ook buiten hun eigen pool kijken...

    Dat lijkt mij ook verstandig, Daniel en Yuki zijn niet (meer) goed genoeg voor een RB-stoeltje en Liam moet eerst in de AT.
