Gaat Alonso racen in Madrid? "Uitdaging"

De Formule 1 kondigde gisteren aan dat de Spaanse Grand Prix vanaf 2026 wordt verreden in Madrid. De hoofdstad neemt deze eer over van Barcelona en dat zorgde voor wisselende reacties. Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali geeft in ieder geval aan dat het lastig gaat worden voor Fernando Alonso om te racen in Madrid.

De komst van Madrid past in de huidige richting van de Formule 1. Ze kiezen steeds vaker voor stratencircuits in grote steden. Sinds vorig jaar wordt er bijvoorbeeld ook geracet in het centrum van Las Vegas en eerder kwamen er ook races in Jeddah, Bakoe en Miami op de kalender. De komst van Madrid is ook niet vreemd, want de sport is zeer populair in Spanje. Met Carlos Sainz en Fernando Alonso staat er immers twee succesvolle Spanjaarden op de grid.

Alonso is momenteel 42 jaar oud, maar hij is nog steeds enorm populair bij de fans van de sport. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen kan de grote publiekstrekker worden van Madrid, maar als de eerste race wordt verreden is hij al 45. Formule 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali geeft aan AS aan dat hij Alonso in 2026 eigenlijk niet meer aan de start verwacht: "Dat wordt een uitdaging voor Fernando. Kan je je voorstellen dat hij wint in Madrid? Ik kan daar alleen maar van dromen dat zoiets gebeurt in Madrid."

Het was geloof ik 1994 of 1995 toen mijn vader me meenam naar Zandvoort, waar onder andere Jean Alesi een demo gaf met zijn gierende V12 Ferrari. De grond trilde en mijn oren kletterden. Wat een geluid!
Die tijden zijn helaas voorbij.

Gaat zo steeds meer op Formule E lijken, nu Madrid (hoogste gelegen hoofdstad van Europa) maar dan sneller en nog beetje met benzine.
Ben blij dat ik nog de Elfstedentocht heb meegemaakt maar ook de V8, V10 en V12 motoren in het f1 veld. Alonso ook, die mocht nog met een V8 en V10 janken..maar goed, het is show geworden en enigzins vermakelijk blijft het wel natuurlijk die formule 1. Want snel gaat het zeker nog wel!

  Mijn eerste bezoekje aan een F1 race was Spa. Met de pendelbus naar het circuit en tegelijk de huilende V10 op de achtergrond. Gaf me toen wel kippenvel.
  
  Maar goed, wat geweest is geweest. F1 staat ook voor vooruitgang, toch? Dan komt er een moment dat je afscheid neemt van V8 en V10 etc. Ik snap het wel, al mis ik het gebrul bij de start ook wel heel erg.
  
  Wat ik dan ook jammer vind, is dat ik stratencircuits ook achteruitgang vind. Het past gewoon in mijn ogen niet bij F1. Jammer.

  vind straten circuits wel gaaf, maar de mix moet goed zijn, en de stratencircuits moet wel uitdaging bieden. wanneer ik kijk naar madrid, zie ik weinig inhaal mogelijkheden. wederom zo'n mwah circuit. en das jammer

  De F1 is nog steeds hartstikke leuk en sommige vernieuwingen zijn goed gebleken. Maar niet elke vernieuwing is per se goed. Je moet niet bij iedere vernieuwing zeggen "ja we moeten het maar accepteren". Zelf ben ik bijvoorbeeld totaal geen fan van DRS. Ik zie liever 1 écht hele knappe inhaalactie dan 5x een "klepje open klepje dicht" actie. De veiligheid daarentegen is echt veel beter geworden, en hoewel ik eerst sceptisch was over die lelijke HALO heeft dat ding zich helemaal bewezen en ben ik volledig om!

  Wel eens ingang pitsstraat gezeten in Hongarije in 1995.
  De wagens die dan binnenkwamen voor hun pitstop....dat geklap van de motoren als die terugschakelden, onvergetelijk! Op tv minder goed te horen helaas. Kon aan de motoren horen welk team vanuit de verte aan kwam janken. Prachtige tijden.
