Verstappen maakte indruk: "Daardoor kregen we een band"

Max Verstappen werkt sinds dit jaar met een nieuwe trainer. De Nederlander nam in december afscheid van Bradley Scanes, die twee werkten jarenlang goed samen. Scanes kijkt trots terug op die periode en hij stelt dat hij en Verstappen op een bijzondere manier naar elkaar zijn gegroeid.

Verstappen werkte sinds 2020 intensief samen met zijn personal trainer Bradley Scanes. De Britse trainer moest ervoor zorgen dat Verstappen elk raceweekend weer fit aan de start van de sessies verscheen. Ze brachten veel tijd door samen en dat zorgde ook voor een goede band. Scanes wil zich nu echter meer gaan focussen op andere zaken en hij stopte na de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi met zijn werkzaamheden bij Red Bull. Verstappen nam op zijn beurt Rupert Manwaring over van Carlos Sainz.

Scanes is trots op alles wat hij met Verstappen heeft bereikt in de afgelopen jaren. Hij begon zijn samenwerking met Verstappen op een bijzonder moment. Hij begon in 2020 met zijn werkzaamheden en in de Red Flag Podcast spreekt hij zich uit: "We hadden toen geluk en pech. Ons eerste seizoen was 2020 en we brachten het gehele voorseizoen samen door. We spendeerden iets van tien weken samen in Monaco. We trainden, lunchten, speelden darts en we speelden FIFA. Op die manier creëerden we een band. Toen we naar de eerste race gingen, kwam COVID om de hoek kijken."

Verstappen loopt zege in simrace met miniem verschil mis
Max Verstappen kwam op dinsdagavond in actie, namens Team Redline, in een reeks simraces op Silverstone en Mugello.
Verstappen schreef de race, met virtuele Formule 3-auto's, in Silverstone op zijn naam, en won ook de eerste race op Mugello.
De tweede race op Mugello ging echter met een marginale achterstand aan zijn neus voorbij. Verstappen kwam op het rechte stuk nog uit de slipstream, maar kwam 0,012 seconden tekort op de zege, die naar Diogo Pinto ging.
Genoeg voor plek twee was het niet, want Verstappen was ook één duizendste langzamer dan de nummer twee, kampioenschapsleider Chris L*lham.
