Ricciardo bleef sterk na handblessure: "Wilde vooruit denken"

Daniel Ricciardo keerde vorig jaar enigszins verrassend terug in de Formule 1. De Australische coureur werd bij het toenmalige AlphaTauri aangesteld als vervanger van Nyck de Vries. Ricciardo brak echter al snel zijn middenhandsbeentje, maar dat zorgde er niet voor dat hij in een diep dal kukelde.

Ricciardo zat na zijn exit bij McLaren eind 2022 zonder Formule 1-stoeltje. Zijn oude liefde Red Bull Racing bood een uitkomst en ze gaven hem een contract als derde coureur. Hij zou zich vooral gaan bezighouden met promotie-evenementen en demoruns, maar halverwege het seizoen kreeg hij toch een zitje. Ricciardo werd door AlphaTauri aangesteld als vervanger van Nyck de Vries. Zijn comeback verliep aardig, maar in de training in Zandvoort brak hij zijn middenhandsbeentje.

Ricciardo bleef strijdbaar en hij kreeg ook voor aankomend jaar een contract bij het team dat nu Visa Cash App RB heet. In gesprek met Motorsport.com kijkt Ricciardo terug op zijn vervelende blessure: "Dat haalde de wind uit mijn zeilen. Ik voelde mij net weer gemotiveerd en hongerig. Ik was weer mijn oude ik en daar genoot ik van. Ik probeerde vooruit te denken, hoe ik het snelste weer kon herstellen. Ik weigerde een blessure al het harde werk van het jaar daarvoor in de war te laten schoppen."

Nou ik vond hem maar vies tegenvallen. Hij deed het echt beet beter dan De Vries met al zijn ervaring. Alleen in Mexico deed hij het goed met heel veel hulp van zijn gehavende teamgenoot die hem de hele kwalificatie heeft voorzien van gratis sliptreams.

Nou ik vond hem maar vies tegenvallen. Hij deed het echt beet beter dan De Vries met al zijn ervaring. Alleen in Mexico deed hij het goed met heel veel hulp van zijn gehavende teamgenoot die hem de hele kwalificatie heeft voorzien van gratis sliptreams.

Ik denk eerder dat ie zijn bijdehandsbeentje had gebroken. Maar niet om het twee of ander... Hij moet wel een beetje gaan presteren, want dat heb ik hem nog niet zien doen na z'n terugkeer.
