Häkkinen doet voorzichtig: "Maar Max kan de allerbeste ooit worden"

Max Verstappen gaat aankomend seizoen op jacht naar zijn vierde wereldtitel in de Formule 1. De Nederlander wordt gezien als een coureur die nog veel meer records kan gaan breken. Volgens Mika Häkkinen moet Verstappen daarvoor nog wel eventjes blijven presteren en hij moet nog vier keer wereldkampioen worden.

Verstappen is momenteel een drievoudig wereldkampioen. De Red Bull Racing-coureur werd in de afgelopen drie seizoenen wereldkampioen en hij liet elke keer weer indrukwekkende dingen zien. Vorig jaar kende Verstappen een recordbrekend seizoen waarin hij negentien Grands Prix wist te winnen en waarin hij een vrachtlading aan records brak. Aangezien de regels pas in 2026 echt veranderen, verwacht men nog veel successen van Verstappen en Red Bull.

Ook tweevoudig wereldkampioen Mika Häkkinen verwacht nog veel van Verstappen in de komende jaren. De Finse oud-coureur laat aan Bild weten dat Verstappen nog veel moet doen: "Wat Max in de afgelopen jaren heeft behaald, is ongelofelijk. Maar om op gelijke hoogte te komen moet hij nog vier kampioenschappen winnen. Max heeft het talent om de beste aller tijden te worden, maar dat ligt niet alleen aan hem. Het ligt ook aan de teambaas, de pitcrew en het management. Alles moet kloppen. Dat was bij Lewis en Michael ook zo, want daarom hadden ze die dominante periode."

    Blijkbaar heeft ieder tijdperk zijn eigen goat nodig. Max is een van de groten maar wie de goat is? Dat is niet te beredeneren. Want Fangio, Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton en Verstapoen hebben ieder hun unieke eigenschapen. Maar als ze vandaag de strijd met elkaar zouden aanbinden met gelijk materiaal en in hun prime condition weet niemand welke eigenschap onder specifieke omstandigheden de doorslag zouden geven.
