Verstappen ziet nieuwe dingen bij Red Bull: "Wauw!"

Max Verstappen trok gisteren het doek van zijn nieuwe RB20. Met deze wagen gaat hij op jacht naar zijn vierde wereldtitel op rij in de Formule 1. De RB20 ziet er op een aantal punten iets anders uit dan de voorganger en Verstappen is daar zeer tevreden mee.

De RB20 is al maanden onderwerp van gesprek. Bij Red Bull gaven ze aan dat ze al geruime tijd bezig zijn met de ontwikkeling van de wagen, maar dat het wel een doorontwikkeling is van de RB19. Voor Verstappen wordt het een belangrijk jaar, want met een vierde wereldtitel zou hij zijn naam in de geschiedenis definitief vestigen. Red Bull kon de RB20 amper geheim houden, want de wagen lekte twee keer uit.

Blij

Verstappen is in ieder geval tevreden met zijn nieuwe wagen. De Nederlandse regerend wereldkampioen is onder de indruk en hij spreekt zich uit bij de internationale media: "Ik ben best blij met de richting die we op zijn gegaan met de nieuwe auto. Tijdens het laatste raceweekend van het vorige seizoen zag ik voor het eerst de tekeningen. Ik dacht toen 'Wauw, dat is op een manier best wel anders.' Ze zijn zeker niet conservatief geweest, laten we het zo zeggen."

Verstappen ziet dat als een positieve ontwikkeling binnen Red Bull. Hij denkt dat zijn werkgever hiermee een mooi en goed signaal afgeeft: "Dat vind ik ook zo leuk aan dit team. We hadden al een geweldig pakket, maar ze hebben echt de kans gegrepen om all out te gaan en het nog beter te maken. De tijd zal het uitwijzen of het echt, echt heel goed is. Als ik iedereen binnen het team zie, dan zijn ze heel blij met wat ze hebben bereikt."

  Newey is volgens mij nooit zo bezig met de woooowww factor. Ik vind deze RB20 zelf iets minder mooi dan de RB19, maar zo lang dat ding maar snel gaat vind ik alles goed.
  
  Newey maar ook bij Mercedes hoor je ze al 3 jaar zeggen dat alles om de vloer draait en waar het Mercedes niet lukt met dit ontwerp gaat Newey het alsog proberen.
  
  Het belangrijkste van deze sidepods is dat hierdoor de "lip" nog hoger geplaatst is waardoor er ruimte is gekomen om de voorkant van de vloer waar de lucht onder de vloer gaat, nog hoger te plaatsen, dus meer lucht onder de vloer te krijgen.
  Overigens heet de nieuwe AM ook een hele hoge "lip" gecreerd, dus die hebben ook een oplossing om de voorkant van de vloer hoger te maken, wordt interessant om te zien hoe die het gaan doen.
  
  De neus had een vreemd plaatje gemonteerd bij de prestentatie en met de wetenschap dat de RB20 niet door de frontale botstest kwam anderhalve maand geleden kan het haast niet anders dan dat we de "echte neus" niet gezien hebben bij de prestentatie, mijn gok is dat die echte neus heel veel extra lucht aan de onderkant in laat stromen.
  
  En de olifantenslurfen op de motorkap is natuurlijk afgekeken van de W14, en Mercedes heeft dat idee weer soort van overgenomen van de "badkuip" van de F1-75, die ook al tot doel had de beamwing van meer gecontroleerde lucht te voorzien.

Leuk voor Verstappen, maar kan eigenlijk niet wachten tot dinsdag tot ze de 1e meters gaan rijden.

Je weet nooit wat ze onder de carrosserie hebben uitgespookt natuurlijk. Naast de zichtbare aero zijn de mechanische onderdelen net zo van belang. Men zegt dat een piloot bij de eerste meters al weet of het een goeie wagen wordt Met dergelijke uitspraak van Max is daar weinig twijfel rond
