Hülkenberg: "De banden snel onder de knie krijgen is belangrijk"

Nico Hülkenberg staat volgend jaar weer op de Formule 1-grid. Na een jaartje als toeschouwer stelde Force India de Duitser voor 2012 aan als racecoureur. Nu wacht de zware taak snel weer in het ritme te komen en om Adrian Sutil te doen vergeten bij de Indiase renstal.

Hülkenberg vertelde aan Autosport: Ik krijg het lastig, maar dat proces ken ik nog van vorig jaar bij Williams. Ik weet niet hoe de Pirelli-banden zich precies gedragen, maar het is belangrijk om ze snel onder de knie te krijgen, dus ik ga zorgen dat ik zo veel mogelijk informatie verzamel om te leren. Dat kan eigenlijk alleen door te rijden. Theoretisch kan je weinig uitrichten. Het is een kwestie van rijden en leren.

De 24-jarige coureur promoveert vanuit een testrol naar een racezitje. Ik ken alle teamleden en engineers al, maar we gaan nu veel nauwer samenwerken. Ik was betrokken bij de briefings en sprak regelmatig met ze, dus de aanpassing zal wel soepel verlopen. Ik voel me op mijn gemak en ben blij met de mensen in dit team.
