Mexico bezig met formeel voorstel voor Grand Prix in 2013

De rentree van de Grand Prix van Mexico op de Formule 1-kalender is nog niet rond. De Spaanse krant Marca maakte eerder al melding van pogingen van het land in Midden-Amerika om de koningsklasse van de autosport weer te ontvangen. Het Hermano Rodriquez circuit in Mexico City geldt als de beoogde locatie voor een race.

Carlos Slim, de rijkste man op aarde en sponsor van Sauber-rijder Sergio Perez, bevestigt de intentie om een Grand Prix te organiseren, maar zover is het nog niet. "Veel variabelen spelen mee om een Grand Prix realiteit te maken. We hebben nog wat dingen nodig voor een formeel voorstel en alles kost tijd. Hopelijk kunnen we het spoedig realiseren. Het gaat goed in Mexico, ons land bevat alle karakteristieken om grote evenementen te huisvesten. We werken aan een formeel voorstel en alles wordt gedaan met zorgvuldigheid."
