Teams met Mercedes-motoren hebben meer last van bandenslijtage

Mercedes, McLaren en Force India worstelen met bovenmatige bandenslijtage dit jaar. Auto Motor und Sport bericht dat de krachtbron van die drie teams waarschijnlijk de oorzaak is. De V8 van Mercedes vergt te veel van de achterbanden van Pirelli.

"Lotus, Ferrari en Red Bull Racing kunnen een setje banden langer heel houden", concludeerde Lewis Hamilton van McLaren al. Het viel Sauber-coureur Sergio Perez ook op. "Bij het accelereren uit de bochten kunnen we ze bijhouden. Maar vervolgens loopt Force India bij ons weg, zolang hun banden nog vers zijn." Mercedes-teambaas Rosso Brawn erkende dat de karakteristieken van de motor van grote invloed zijn op de slijtage van de banden. Mercedes heeft het probleem geïdentificeerd en werkt hard om het via engine maps voor torque/koppel te verbeteren.
