Ricciardo: "Anoniem meerijden is dit jaar niet meer genoeg"

Scuderia Toro Rosso-coureur Daniel Ricciardo is erop gebrand om dit jaar zijn naam te vestigen. De Australiër reed vorig jaar zijn eerste volledige seizoen in de Formule 1 en eindigde zes maal in de top tien voor een totaal van tien punten. Een jaar zonder echte uitschieters. Daar mikt Ricciardo voor 2013 op.

"Het is nooit mijn bedoeling om arrogant over te komen, maar in je eerste jaar in de Formule 1 ben je al blij dat je erbij hoort", opent hij. "Zodra je gewend bent aan de omgeving leg je de lat hoger. Dus voor dit jaar is het niet meer genoeg om aanwezig te zijn en anoniem mee te rijden."

"Ik wil van toegevoegde waarde zijn, ik wil mooie dingen teweeg brengen. Mijn vertrouwen is toegenomen en ik geloof dat ik daardoor de resultaten kan behalen. Ik leg mezelf veel druk op. Alleen racen zonder iets spectaculairs te doen, is niet genoeg voor dit jaar."

"Op regelmatige basis in de punten finishen is een goede start. In de punten gaat het echt ergens om. Vechten voor vijftiende en zestiende posities is geen pretje. Wanneer er iets op het spel staat is het pas opwindend. Een podium of zege zou me echt gelukkig maken, maar punten is een eerste stap."
